I hesitated to reply to this, but my conscious just keeps nagging at me about it. Although I understand and sympathize with your friend's situation, and know how hard it can be to gather info about a person's family history, I'm really more than a bit uncomfortable posting information about living persons who didn't have a say in saying "post our family's story". I'm talking about the other children/siblings of your friend. Although your friend may be wanting to find more information, and I can't blame him/her if she does, I have to give a friendly suggestion to be careful about posting the names, dates/years of birth of the others in the family. They may not want their info so publicly given out if they're still living. It's hard to say what direction their lives have taken, and as too many unsuspecting still-living people have found out in the course of family history research, it's not fair to publicize their info without checking with them for an okay. And if the c! ircumst ances don't allow that, then it's always best to keep the names of the still-living confidential except in places you might better be able to control who sees it, such as private email. I wish your friend luck, though. And please don't take this as a chastisement, as it isn't meant to be... just a reminder that we do have to respect the privacy of those still living as we do our research. sdp -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: Damaris1979 > Surnames: Phillips, Baker > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.phillips/8157/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > I am doing research for a friend, here is her story. > She was the 3rd child of five born to Fred Phillips and ann Baker. Dear SDP, Thank you for your comments. With identity theft being such a huge problem, not to mention harassment (I've been a victim of both), I do NOT want my name, place and date of birth being published on these lists or anywhere else, and I do not want to see those of my living relatives, either. I don't even use my real name in emails. In addition to identity theft and harassment, it's an issue of courtesy to the living.
