Some time after 1746, an emigrant arrived from Ireland,. He had a son named James Phillips. This James Phillips was probably born in Ireland about 1746. James married Sarah (maiden name unknown) who was born about 1744. James Phillips died in Keene, Cheshire County, New Hampshire 9 December 1924 at the age of 78. His wife Sarah died 9 February 1822 in Roxbury, Cheshire County, New Hampshire at the age of 78. Sarah's death was announced in the Keene Sentinel and James Phillips death can be found online at www.ci.keene.nh.us/library/vitalstatistics. Capt. James Phillips was born 8 January 1787 in Walpole, New Hampshire the son of James and Sarah Phillips. He married 3 December 1809 in Keene, Cheshire County, New Hampshire to Matilda Smith who was born 4 August 1787 in Hinsdale, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, the daughter of Jedediah Smith and Deborah Dunton. Capt. James Phillips died 10 July 1827 in Keene, Cheshire County, New Hampshire. Francis Phillips was a farmer and resided in Walpole, NH before 1853 (see vital records), Gilsum, NH in November 1844 (see marriage record), and Alstead, NH between1853-1903 (see death record). Census Record- Swanzey, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, ED21, pg. 17B). He died 28 October 1925 in Richmond, Cheshire, New Hampshire of a gun shot wound from accidental self-discharge of gun while climbing (see newspaper article Keene Sentinel October 1925). Sterry Albert Phillips was a farmer (see marriage record) and had worked at the New England Box Company in 1917 (see WW 1 Draft Registration Card ). He had resided in Winchester, Cheshire County, New Hampshire August 1973 (see death record file # 1973-004628), Oct 1925 (see Keene Evening Sentinal 1 Nov 1925 death of James G. Phillips), December 1940 (see Keene Sentinal article 12 Dec 1940 pg 3 death of his son Harold Phillips), Jan 1947 (see death notice of Nora A. Phillips 13 Jan 1947), Sept 1966 (see obituary of Mabel A. (Phillips) Ellor Sept 1966 in Keene Sentinal), Feb 1919 (see marriage record), and June 1917 (see WW 1 Draft Registration Card online). His draft card states he was medium height, medium built, brown eyes, brown hair and not disabled. He was in military service during WW 1. He died 15 August 1973 at the Veterans Hospital, Manchester, New Hampshire of Colon Cancer. Burial was 18 August 1973 at the Evergreen Cemetery, Richmond Road, Winchester, Cheshire, New Hampshire.
