Jones, This is Nancy Kiser, the Assistant Administrator of the Phillips Worldwide DNA Project. As you probably know, William Phillips married Esther Vickery 19 Dec 1829 in Guilford Co NC. Their daughter Lourkie Philips married John H. Osborne 7 Dec 1865 in Guilford Co NC. William appears on the 1850 census in Guilford Co NC and he told the census taker that he was born in Stokes Co NC. Some researchers believe William was the son of Richard and Julianna (Strub) Phillips of Stokes Co NC and that his birth date (28 May 1800) is recorded in the bible of Joseph Phillips of Surry Co NC. This may indicate that your William was the grandson of Joseph Phillips. I have collected a 14 page Word document on Richard and Julianna Strub) Phillips which I could email to you, if you are interested. Also, we now have FINALLY gotten some descendants of Joseph and Mary Phillips of Surry Co NC into the DNA project, and they are shown as Phillips Family Group 29 on the Phillips Worldwide website at this link: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/p/phillips/pats.html If you have a male Phillips relative who would be willing to join the project and get his DNA tested, you could establish whether or not your Phillips line belongs to Phillips Family Group 29. The DNA test is painless and private. Sincerely, Nancy Kiser Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. For Debbie McNabb and other list members: I believe two of the names Debbie mentions (Reuben and Mark PHILLIPS) occur in the records in early Craven County, NC. This suggests that they may have come from there. Does anyone know who the father of Ruben Clement Phillips of Quitman County, Georgia is? He would have been born in the 1700's. Thanks, Debbie
Does anyone know who the George Phillips is that is listed in the 1820 census of Greene County, Georgia? There are several Phillips listed but they are all mine. They all belong to Mark Phillips. I am looking for the parents of George. Thanks for any help. Debbie
I'm looking for descendants of Paschal P. Philips (sometimes spelled with one L, sometimes two) ?b. 1 Mar 1814, Franklin Co., GA - d. ? who was married to Malissa W. Key.? They had nine (9) children -- among them was Louisa E. (2 Feb 1847 DeKalb Co., GA - 17 Jun 1930 Walton Co., GA.) who married Allen Bond WHITEHEAD. Parents of Paschal were: James PHILIPS (15 Jul 1786 GA - 12 Aug 1872 DeKalb Co., GA) and Sarah Burdette McIntyre (17 May 1795 GA - 17 Jan 1877 DeKalb Co., GA).? Who was the father of James? There were other PHILLIPS families in Walton Co. and I'm trying to establish if there is a family connection. For instance: There was a Mark PHILLIPS (10 Feb 1788 NC - 1857 Walton Co., GA) who was married to Sarah Elizabeth PHILLIPS (1819 GA - 1897 Walton Co., GA). Parents of Mark PHILLIPS were John PHILLIPS (b. abt 1752 NC - d. 1821 Oglethorpe Co., GA) and Sarah SEXTON (b. abt 1762 - d. bef. 1850 Oglethorpe Co., GA).? John and Sarah DID NOT have a son named James. Claudine P? in GA
Hi, Debbie, This is Nancy Kiser, the Assistant Administrator of the Phillips Worldwide DNA Project. Some researchers believe Ruben Clement Phillips was the same person as Reuben Phillips who was born about 1725 in Cecil Co MD and died about 1800-1805 in Oglethorpe Co GA. However, this is the first time I have seen him connected to Quitman Co GA. The descendants of Reuben Phillips of Cecil Co MD comprise Phillips Family Group 2 at Phillips Worldwide. You can review their pedigrees at our website at this link: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/p/phillips/pats.html One interesting thing you might want to especially notice is the fact that one of the members of Phillips Family Group 2 claims descent from a Reuben Clementine Phillips of Anson Co NC who was married to Sarah O'Bray. This Reuben Phillips died in Anson Co NC around 1781. Sincerely, Nancy Kiser Debbie <debbiemcnabb@sbcglobal.net> wrote: Does anyone know who the father of Ruben Clement Phillips of Quitman County, Georgia is? He would have been born in the 1700's. Hi, Claudine, This is Nancy Kiser, the Assistant Administrator of the Phillips Worldwide DNA Project. As you may know, many reseachers believe Jame Phillips who married Sarah McIntyre was the son of Levi and Barbara (Hough) Phillips of Oconee Co SC. A few further believe that Levi was a descendant of Reuben Phillips of Cecil Co MD. The descendants of Reuben Phillips of Cecil Co MD comprise Phillips Family Group 2 at Phillips Worldwide. Here is a link to our website where you can review the pedigrees of Phillips Family Group 2: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/p/phillips/ If you have a male Phillips relative who is willing to join the project and get his DNA tested, you will be able to discover whether or not your Phillips line really belongs to Phillips Family Group 2. The DNA test is painless and private. Hope you have a male Phillips relative who is willing to contribute his DNA to this important project! There was an Andrew (different that your Andrew/Sarah) Phillips in Overton Co., TN, about 1806 or so. You may want to look into this Andrew, or others, as a possible gr-grandfather? Many people, however, named their children after famous political/war people, such as Andrew jackson, George Washington, etc., so the name Andrew may not be a family name at all. I think it made me think that ALL of the people of any certain surname there were related - and maybe they are. I don't recognize Newtownards. I have at least two Phillips lines that I'm following from the Kilkeel / Ballinran area. One is the line of Lawrence Phillips married to Teresa Callaghan and one is the line of Joseph Callaghan married to Catherine Phillips. Some of the children of both lines emigrated and some stayed in County Down - and I believe there are descendants still there. I believe the earliest one I have is Daniel Phillips - father of Lawrence (and maybe Catherine?) - born abt. 1792. Perhaps we'll find that some of our lines connect.
