First, I quoted the paragraph from a book that was published in early 1900 that was called The History of Washington County, Maryland. It mentioned George Phillips & his son Christopher, and then launched into John Allen Phillips, who moved from Virginia to Maryland. So, I was trying to see if anyone out there has any connection. Second, my John Allen Phillips was born in 1826 and was married to Wilhelmina Ann Redman. Looking for the descendents of Lieutenant Stearne Phillips co. Meath, Ireland. Stearne was born in 1776 (to Michael Phillips and Mabel Tighe) and died 1848. In 1827 he was living in Girley, co. Meath, Ireland. All of his children (born 1826-46) are listed in the Athboy Registers. There are no Phillips burials recorded in the area so there must be a burial plot elsewhere. Stearne married 1823 to Margaret Tighe (daughter of Stearne Tighe of Garlanstown, co. Westmeath and Jane Voalkes). They had 13 children: a) Stearne Phillips born 1826 in Co. Meath. He married 1855 to his cousin Jane Maria Phillips (daughter of Captain Thomas Phillips and Helena Nunn). They immigrated with their children (Stearne, Frances, William, Emma, and Elfrida) to Tasmania (Australia) in 1873. b) Anne Phillips born 1827 in Co. Meath. She married Joshua Phillips (son of Captain Thomas Phillips and Helena Nunn) in 1854. Joshua was from "Drinadaly Lodge". They had one son, Frederick William Phillips, of Dublin. c) Thomas Phillips was born 1828 in Co. Meath, Ireland. He died without issue. d) Frederick Phillips was born 1832 in Co. Meath, Ireland. Family lore says he was the black sheep of the family. He married a Spanish lady (name unknown). e) Margaret Phillips was born 1834 in Co. Meath. A family tree written before the turn of the century indicates she moved to New Zealand. f) Matilda Frances Phillips married J. Gibson, of Stonehall, co. Westmeath, Ireland. g) Joshua Phillips was born 1837 in Co. Meath. Went to New Zealand. h) Robert Phillips was born 1839. He immigrated to Australia before 1869. He married in Australia to Isabella Jane Anderson (born 1847 to John Anderson and Isabella Boyd) and settled in Ulverstone, Tasmania where he was a farmer. They had 3 children: Margaret, Alice, and Vernon Ashton. i) Arthur Wellesley Phillips was born 1841 in Co. Meath, Ireland. He immigrated to England in 1856 and became a Master Marine. He died in 1895. Arthur married Mary Carey and had seven children. Several moved to Canada. j) Hannah Mabella Phillips was born 1842 in Co. Meath, Ireland. She married E. Taylor. k) Daniel Tighe Phillips born 1844 in Co. Meath, Ireland. He married twice and had issue. l) Mary Jane Phillips was born 1846 in Co. Meath, Ireland. m) William Phillips. Elko is buried in the Old Cemetery. She was originally Susie Breznay, daughter of John and Anna (Harsharik) Breznay. She married John Kutches, he died 1928, then she married George Elko. She was born Feb.24, 1900 and died Jan. 24, 1949. There is a small tombstone next to hers, for a child, but I don't remember if it has a name on it.
