Surnames: PHILLIPS, WHITTENBERG, BURNS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/nNABAIB/5294.1.1.1 Message Board Post: The Abraham Phillips of Washington Co. IL came from Blount County, Tennessee. Before that the family lived in Lancaster County, PA. Before that England. Abraham I came from England about 1745, fought in the American Revolution, married to a Polly. His name is on a marker in Blount County of Revolutionary soldiers and in the DAR book. His son, Abraham II married a Sarah Elizabeth Burns who was suppose to Penn Dutch. No one has been able to trace her family and Burns is a Scottish name so I think maybe it was spelled different. Anyway the two had problems due to language and after they moved to TN, Sarah returned home to PA for the birth of her first son John, my ancestor. Most of the rest of her kids born TN. My ancestor was the first of the family to come to Washington Co. IL in 1819. A lot of the family (siblings and parents) came later. John came with his wife's folks (Whittenbergs) to establish the first Methodist church in the area...Beaucoup. Sorry we couldn't lin! k up.

The Phillips family I am researching was located in Washington County, Ohio, beginning about 1820. They appear to have earlier connections in Monroe County and Belmont County, Ohio, and possibly in northern West Virginia and western Pennsylvania. Some family members migrated to Cumberland County and Clark County, Illinois, about 1860. If I encounter any of the Phillips names that you mention, I will be sure to let you know.

She was married to Daniel Kent and had two children. A daughter, Olive Matilda(died in 1846 also) and a son Derastus Marion Kent who was my ggrandfather. I think Ann Jane is somehow connected to either a Holdridge or a William Phillips who also lived in Union Co.and came from Virginia. Any help? Thanks,Linda

    3. Listers, I am posting this because my message to Debbie Morgan bounced back. Wanda Debbie, I came across some information and remembered you. In a book of court reported birth records by Gloria Cox, Harriett Mae West Hein b Nov 29, 1895 (1st child)and Hannah West Miller b May 30, 1899 (2nd child)and Lula Pearl West Allison b Aug 28, 1904 (4th child)all report parents as William Shelby West and Rosa Phillips. Parents and children all born Warrick Co, IN. Rosa Phillips was dtr of William M. Phillips. William M. Phillips does not appear to be the son of John Phillips who was born 1829 in NC and married Polly Gentry in Warrick Co, IN 1849. William M. Phillips age 7 is not in Warrick Co in 1860, plus he reports his father b SC. I suggest you look for William M. Phillips in one of the other counties in IN 1860, possibly Gibson or Posey Co. He obviously had some connection to John and Mary Gentry Phillips, but what I don't know. You might look for William's marriage to Hannah Leslie in KY. It would appear that William M. Phillips is neither the son of John and Mary Gentry Phillips, nor James Ross and America Endicott Phillips. Please let me know if you find William's parents in the 1860 census. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Kelly, Falvey, Phillips, Stevens Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/nNABAIB/5508 Message Board Post: While researching my KELLY line, found mention that Mary Kelly, daughter of John T. and Johanna (Falvey) KELLY, married a P. H. Phillips. They had daughters Helen, Grace, Marguerette (unsure of spelling from census), and Celeste. By the time of the 1920 census, Mary was widowed, and she and her daughters were living in her deceased parents' home, 1919 Hoagland Ave., with Mary's brother, John J. Kelly. Mary was sister of our direct-line ancestor, Catherine KELLY, who married John Kelly STEVENS, also of Fort Wayne. If anyone is researching this line that intermarried with your Phillips line, pls contact me. I would like to know the full name of Mary's husband, his dates, and his parents' names, if someone could help me with this. Also would be glad to exchange this info for KELLY data.
