Surnames: Phillips, Jergins, Weldy, Howard Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/nNABAIB/5558.1 Message Board Post: Hi Andria, My ancestors, through my father, include his mother's maiden name, Jergins. Her father was William Edward Jergins who was born in Walker Co, TX, 01/01/1872. He married Susan Marie Phillips who was probably born in Brownwood, Brown Co., TX, 12/17/1871. Until recently we had no idea who her parents might be. The 1880 Census for Williams Ranch, Brown Co., TX, lists Mary Phillips age 39 (that would make her birthdate 1851) born in Texas with parents from Alabama, Sarah Phillips age 12 from Texas, Charles Phillips Age 10 from Texas, Susan Phillips (probably my great-grandmother) age 8 from Texas and George Phillips age 3 from Texas. Mary is listed as a widowed housekeeper. If she is my family, her granddaughter is my grandmother, Mary Lee Gertrude (Jergins) Howard. Could there be a connection between you and I? As of yet, I have no Alabama city or county to refer to. I appreciate any information that you can provide. Thanks so much, Cathey A. Cline

Cal and Belinda: I am wondering if the Crouch family that was in Adair Co. KY in the mid-1850s was connected to the Crouches Belinda is writing about. I have a record of a Polly Wright marrying a James Crouch in Adair Co. KY in 1836. My Wright family in Adair Co. is allied with a Phillips family; however the farthest along the migration path that I have for the Phillipses is Pittsylvania Co. VA in the late 1700s. The connection is Thomas Phillips (b. ca 1740), md Margaret Buchanan, lived Pittsylvania Co. VA > Susannah Phillips (b. ca 1760) md Josiah Sparks 1794; they moved to Union Co. SC and Jefferson Co. TN before Adair Co. KY > Jane Phillips Sparks (b. 1810) md Thomas O. Wright 1828 in Adair Co. KY. Possibly this Polly Wright was a sister to Thomas O. Wright. Her marriage to James Crouch is in the Adair Co. courthouse. Do either of you have Wright, Ownby, Sparks, or Buchanan names allied with your Phillips or Crouch families? Nancy Sicotte
Would anyone have an E-mail for Brenda Wood? We had been in touch regarding William Phillips b.1740 and lived later on in Surry Co. NC. Her address has been lost. Bob Binzer

Bellinda, this is very interesting. It is the first time I have found a PHILLIPS/CROUCH connection in the 12-15 years since I started the Phillips list! My GGrandfather, Bennett S. PHILLIPS married Frances CROUCH in Boone county, Missouri Aug.7, 1834. He then showed up in Linn county, MO where he married Elizabeth JOHNSON in 1844. In the 1850 federal census, a boy John age 12 is in the household and I have always assumed that John was perhaps the son of Bennett and Frances. If you have any thoughts on this or information, I would appreciate hearing them.
