Mrs. Janet Phillips - Glace Bay. Mrs. Janet D. Phillips, 86, 79 Catherine Street died at the Glace Bay General Hospital on Wednesday May 28, 1986. She was born in Scotland and was the daughter of the late Qilliam and Janet (Wilson) Shepherd. Mrs. Phillips was a member of the United Baptist Church. She was a member of the World Wide Guild Association and the Women's Missionary Socitey of the Baptist Church. She was alsoa member of the Glace Bay General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. Twice married she was predeceased by both husbands, Andrew Ballie and Charles T. Phillips and by a son Andrew. She is survived by a daughter Janet (Mrs. Clifford Smith) of Glace Bay, sons William and Allan Baillie, both of Glace Bay, 21 grandchildren, step-sons Charles of Guelph, Ontario, Allister of Ontario, stewart of Toronto and William of Homeville, stepdaughters Elizabeth (Mrs. Ross MacDonald) of Ontario, Olive (Mrs. Richard) of B.C. and Jean (Mrs. Lorne Stewart) of Nova Scotia. The body rested at V.J. McGillivary Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street. The funeral and commital service was held Saturday at the funeral home chapel at 2 p.m. The burial was in Greenwood Cemetery with Rev. Alan macLellan officiating.

Harriet C. Lester, daughter of Samuel Lester, was born about 1812 in South Carolina. She married Lewis Phillips and they had at least one child named Lewis Oscar Phillips born August 13, 1845 in Mississippi. He in turn married Eliza Penelope LeSueur January 02, 1877 in Williamson Co., Texas. Eliza was the daughter of Charles Marion LeSueur and Eliza Kerr Gordon. Eliza and Lewis Phillips had two children, Hubert L. Phillips born about August 1878 in Texas or Louisiana. He and his wife, Eleorna, are buried in Lafayette Protestant Cemetery, Lafayette, Lafayette Parish, Louisiana. They had one female child named Milstead Phillips born between 1905 - 1906.
