Hi Everyone, I have just recently seen on the 1881 census, information re. my Great Grandmother - Emma Phillips age 32, born Chiswick Middlesex c. 1849. I am reasonably sure she was married to Henry Hewson, a gunner in the Royal Artillery, as I have a marriage certificate dated 1874 which agrees with the census and shows her age as 26, ie born 1848. Her father is recorded as Philip Phillips ( deceased bricklayer ). However, as I have yet to find any birth details for Emma, help and directions from Listers would be greatly appreciate. With best wishes from sunny Queensland ................... John Jackson.

Surnames: Phillips, Eldridge Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/nNABAIB/5774 Message Board Post: Folks, Am hoping SOMEONE on this list can help me out. I've exhausted all online efforts to locate any information on the parent of these two. They and their parents were born in Massachusetts. The only records I've managed to locate on them in the early years, are the 1910-1920 US Census records in Hampden County, Mass. Nellie I. Phillips married @ 1925 to Paul M. Eldrige, and lived, for a time, in North Adama, Mass. She died in CT in 1990. Her birthdate from SSDI is 1-Oct-1901. In the 1910 US Census, she and her sister Mildred are listed as "State Boarders" living with the Stacy family in Monson, Mass. Since neither had been born by 1900 Census, and parents weren't around in 1910, those avenues are closed. Aside from taking a trip up to Massachusetts' State Archives, I'm hoping SOMEONE on this list MIGHT have some more information. I've no idea what happened to Mildred, but know she lived to adulthood. Not sure if she married, or not. They also, by family "lore" had an! other, older sister. Just that none in the family can remember her name! So, as you can see, without some help, this is a brick wall that's in the fairly recent past. Any and all help/suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers, Jared Handspicker

I'm still looking at the Grundy part of the Phillips' family and find the following: Wm. Phillips Sr. (born 1759),married Margaret Grundy Bland. Although it was family tradition that Grundy was the middle name, it was readily accepted at the time by all researchers. Wm. Phillip's Sr.'s brother John (born 1743), had a daughter Elizabeth who married Ed Rutter. They had a son Felix Grundy Rutter. Samuel Grundy had a brother Felix. Samuel died in Washington County, KY in 1841. Does anyone have anything on this line, that might indicate an older Felix Bland connection? Thank You, Christen http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~rosamili p.s. abstract of Samuel Grundy's will: from Fay Saunder's book "Washington County, Wills 1792-1853" " Grundy, Samuel - Will - W: 9 Jun 1841, P: 26 Jul 1841 Leg: Wife Nancy - mentions land on Cartwrights Creek Sons: Samuel Richard, Charles, Robert C. There are many Phillips there, also Mosleys and Revels (Which Clarice mentioned in her post about the cemetery) I do know that many Phillips migrated to GA, my line did not, so I can't be more specific. On the 1870 Robeson census I show an Enoch Phillips age 23, maybe this is your Enoch's father? He could have been named after him. ( Shooting in the dark here! ~grin~)
