Is anyone working on PHILLIPS in Surry, Prince George or nearby counties 1700-1740? Many thanks, Mary Jane Phillips-Matz
You may be related to my wife then. All 4 of her grandparents were Jews from Eastern Europe. Her grandfather was Morris Phillips who was b 1877 in Kalverie Russia which I think is now in Latvia or Lithuania. He married Gizella Schwartz from Kosice which is now in Slovakia, but was in Hungary then. I don't know the route he came to the US, but he was naturalized in Detroit MI in 1896. The story my wife has is that he was the first of his siblings to leave Russia. They don't know why he started using the name Phillips, but he told his siblings and they used that name when they immigrated. My wife's brother has documents that have the original name written in Cyrillic. He lives in Lansing MI now. He doesn't know the exact location of the papers. He has become the repository of the family papers. He has 2 rooms of his house full of boxes of family information. We brought 6 of them with us when we visited last year. Mostly they were pictures. My Phillips ancestors were Russian jews who first went to England before coming to the US in 1883. I have an idea that they changed their names when they got to England... Does anyone know what the Russian name might have been nor do I know what area of England they may have settled. I cannot find my family in England although my grandfather & his siblings were all born there 1850s til 1881. Thanks, Evelyn

Bullard. The only other information I have is that he died in April 1934 in Orleans, Vermont. The other piece of paper from the 1930's handed down to me notes an Eva Bullard of Orleans, Vermont -- his wife? his sister? They were related to the Phillips family from the Rouses Point, NY-Alburg, VT-Eastern Townships of Quebec area. Thank you.

My mother's great-aunt, Annie (Glory) BLORE, born 1864, married William Edward (? Edward William) Picton PHILLIPS in London in 1902. He was born in Haverfordwest in 1862; his father was Edward Picton PHILLIPS MRCS, his mother was Eliza Susanna Pri(t)chard Phillips, nee MORGAN. This is all unconfirmed information, from my father's notes. It looks as though there could be a connection - are they familiar at all? I haven't done any work on this line, as it's rather peripheral for me, but I'd be interested to know about the family.

It is not a biography, but is a genealogy of her ancestry of her mother's family. Much of the information is available on a family tree submitted to Ancestry.com by Jesse Pickrum, who has done a great deal of work on these families also. He has added much of the text of "Briefly Biographical - A Genealogy of the Palmer Family" by Bertha Hornung (Bertha Irene Phillips, b. 1883), written about 1954, to his pages for John Palmer and John Palmer, Jr. (b. 1730). As John Palmer is a difficult name to search for, I suggest you search for Elizabeth Cootrick (b. 1730), the wife of John Palmer Jr. That search should bring up two trees, one submitted by Judy Bowman Rhodes and the other submitted by Jesse H. Pickrum. On his pages for John Palmer and John Palmer, Jr. is where you can read the excerpt. Also search for his pages on William Fleet Palmer (b. 1862, d. 1942), Benjamin Franklin Palmer (b. 1847, d. 1898), John Mason Palmer (b. 1883, d. 1978), and James William (or William James) Ghent (b. 1866, d. 1942), all members of this extended family who have especially interesting notes.

My dad was Richard Allen Phillips, who was killed in the line of duty (police officer) in 1957. We lost all contact with his family after that. We don't have much info. about his family to go on, but maybe someone will recognize a name and can help us out. Parents are: T.G Phillips who married Ethel Florence Payne. Siblings are: Eunice, Eugene, Charles, and Marcella. Dad was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, and the family moved to California, where dad died in El Segundo. We think that T.G.(initials are all we have here) came from Georgia or Oklahoma. If anyone can shed some light on this branch of the Phillips family tree, please email me and thank you for reading this!

All perished in a scarlet fever epidemic circa 1911, except one son, Lawrence (born in 1900 in Philadelphia) and 1 daughter, I believe her name was Julia (she was about 3 years older than Lawrence). I believe John H. (grandfather) was born in PA circa 1880. The fact that you mentioned a Henry and a Robert in your message made me wonder if there might be a connection. My husband's name was John Henry also and he had a brother named Robert who died in infancy. Eliza born in 1880 in Philadelphia PA, was the daughter of Joseph Murray and Fannie Bell. they also had Alice Murray, 4 years old in 1880, and Mary, 3 years old in 1880. Fannie was the daughter of William and Letitia Bell, 50 and 49, respectively, in 1880. In 1919 census, they also had a son named Joseph F (27 years old) and Anna G (20 years old). Eliza was not listed although her sister Mary was, Alice was not. But I have been unable to locate either John Henry and Eliza Elizabeth's marriage certificate or either of their death certificates or obituaries anywhere. If anyone has any info that would help me, please help me.
