    1. [PHILLIPS] Richard Ripley's misinformation about the Phillips family
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/nNABAIB/5840 Message Board Post: I feel compelled to post this message warning other Phillips family researchers about the misinformation Richard Ripley is spreading all over the internet about various branches of the Phillips family. Richard Ripley is a Canadian who represents himself as a professional genelogist and the ultimate authority on the Phillips family in the New World. He belongs to the Association of Professional Genealogists which is headquartered in Westminister, Colorado and I have complained to them about the misleading and erroneous information that he has posted on the internet with regard to my Phillips line. I believe that Richard Ripley is just into genealogy for the money. He does not care about whether his information is right or wrong. He only wants it to be sensational, because that is what sells. He tries to tie every Phillips in the New World back to a Phillips family who supposedly lived in Picton Castle in Wales, because he know everyone wants to believe that they descend from nobility who lived in castles in Europe. This is the hook that he uses to get people to buy his CD or the family crest that he also sells. Mr. Ripley borrows information from other people's files on the internet and then misquotes their research or uses it out of context, forcing it to fit into the Picton Castle family tree that he has concocted. He also cons people into sending him their hard-earned research which he repackages and then sells on his CD. Everyone whould be very cautious about Richard Ripley's information and definitely do not waste your money on his CD. You might consider complaining to the APG about him if he has also screwed up your branch of the Phillips family and refused to correct it. Another course of action is to attach post-ems to his rootsweb files pointing out the errors and mistakes in his work. Be sure to include citations to wills, deeds, tax records, etc that prove you are right and he is wrong. I know this is only a hobby for most of us, but it bothers me to see how badly Richard Ripley is muddying up the waters with regard to the Phillips. I think it is important to alert other Phillips family researchers about this problem. Sincerely, Nancy Kiser Denver, CO

    3. Lori, I have a Lyman Hubbard Phillips who was born 19 June 1787 at Manlius Square, Onondaga Co., NY. He was the son of Col. Elijah (Sr.) and Susannah (Gates) Phillips of Preston, New London Co., CT, and Manlius Square, Onondaga Co., NY. I don't have more on Lyman H. Phillips or who he married, etc., but I have lots of information on other related Phillipses in NY, MI, WI, IA, SD, WA & OR. I'd like to know if this Lyman married or had children. Let me know if this is your Lyman, or if you think he may be related. --Nick Sheedy, John Day, Oregon __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? SBC Yahoo! There is an older Ira married to a very young Roana (second wife) who could have been his father in the same town but I am stumped at how a connection can be proven.
