Andrew J Ayers was the stepson of William R Ayers. The couple didn't have any children of their own. Andrew J Ayers used the Ayers name even though he was a Phillips. Rosa Jane Combs knew this and gave her son the Phillips sir name. Andrew J Ayers died in a hospital fighting in the civil war and never knew his son. Andrew Z Phillips was my Great Grandfather. His daughter Mary Nancy Phillips was my Great Grandmother. She married Robert Green Johnson. Their son Authur Johnson was my Grandfather.

I am posting this for your research. St. Joseph Herald St. Joseph, Michigan Saturday, March 26, 1887 Mrs. Elizabeth M. Phillips died at her residence on Main street on March 23, 1887, aged 65 years, 7 months and 13 days. Mrs. Phillips was born in Centre co., Pa., Aug 8, 1822 and moved to Lansing, Mich, when very young, after a few years she moved to Centreville, Mich. On April 10, 1877 she came to this place where she has since resided. Her husband died in the fall of 1877. Mrs. Phillips had been ill several weeks. She leaves five grown children - two sons and three daughters - all residents of this town and vicinity. Her funeral was held Thursday from her late home. Rev. G.L. Cole officiating and her remains taken yesterday to Centreville, Mich for interment.

James or James P. Phillips was born in South Carolina on 9-11-1805, Married Merry Mullinax 10-17-1833 in S.C.,and died on 2-6-1884 in Eastern Monroe County, Mississippi. Merry Mullinax was born 12-24-1811 in South Carolina and died 8-19-1877 also in Eastern Monroe County, Mississippi. They show on the 1850 Fed. Census records. They had 7children, 5 boys and 2 girls. I have most of the information from 1850 forward. I need help finding anything prior to 1850, especially regarding their parents, brothers and sisters, where they were born, etc. I would appreciate any and all help and assistance or directions on how to find the information I am seeking.
