The reason is, the DNA results are in an email file which I haven't yet been able to access when I click on the browse key in GEDCOM. I'm still looking for a way. If I could transfer the DNA results into My Documents then it would be easy. Nicholas Phillips first shows up in tithe records in 1768, apparently living with a Christian Phillips. Christian could be a brother, cousin or a son from a previous marriage. Nicholas died in 1786 so he doesn't show up in tithe tables after that year but Christian does, almost yearly up through 1796. I trace my line back to Peter Phillips, b. 1768 the oldest son of Nicholas. Interesting that Peter was born the year that Nicholas and Christian appear on the tithe tables for the first time in Loudoun co.

FTDNA should have sent you a Personal FT Page when they notified you of your DNA results. There you will see an icon called Join and there you will find Phillips Worldwide (the most important group i think) and Phillips America. Phillips Worldwide will post you with your closest match usually. Next to the Join icon is the ySearch icon where you can upload you DNA results with ease. The third thing that i believe very helpful both to you and your searches and to other researchers is the uploading of your family tree .ged file. You can do that under the orange tab that says GEDCOM - Family Tree. Instead of going South some Virginia Phillips went East. What was the name of Nicholas oldest son? Were John and Peter the only sons? Does Christian's birth date come nearer Nicholas or to John's or to Peter's ? I think you will find your guy because of his slightly unusual name Nicholas. Please let me know as soon as you are joined with either of the Phillips group.

Bobby: I am curious about your Susannah Phillips. Is there a brother named Thomas Phillips, born around the same time or ca 1740? I have a Thomas Phillips who married Margaret Buchanan ca 1760. They lived in Pittsylvania Co. VA (near the NC line). They had a daughter named Susannah Phillips born in the 1760s. She married Josiah Sparks in 1794. I cannot find the family of this Thomas Phillips. Do you have the parents of your Susannah Phillips? Nancy

I took the DNA test but the results showed that I'm not related to anyone in the Phillips Project. In a way it didn't surprise me because this part of the line is dwindling. I haven't joined the YSearch or Phillips America and I'd like to. I need some help with that. I have two sons, John (of course) who isn't married yet and Jason who has 2 daughters and no sons. So I remaried and had another son (I'm 65), Kenneth and he's 7 now. I'm stuck at a brickwall with Nicholas Phillips d. ca. 1786 in Loudoun VA. He lived between Dutchman's Creek and Catoctin Creek. He comes to our attention by way of a lease for 150-acres in that area dated 1767, land he got from John Norton. Nicholas' son Peter was b. the following year 1768 and John Nicholas b. ca. 1775. We know plenty about the two brothers. Nothing about the father Nicholas or his wife, her name, or where they came from. Far as I know, the boys didn't go to NC or KY. They went to Ohio.

I haven't joined either the YSearch or Phillips America. Please help me with that. Continuing the Phillips dialogue, it seems the Phillips line was strong in two areas, being nomadic and having lots of kids. But I haven't come across any in our line that went south of Virginia at least not permanently. To NC for example, or KY. That doesn't mean some didn't. I've been concentrating on a brick wall, Nicholas Phillips d. ca 1786 in Loudoun Co. and his two kids John Nicholas Phillips and Peter. Adding to the confusion is a Christian Phillips who shows up on the tax lists at that time. I think he's related somewhow.

That maybe unfortunate because there's no one I can compare stories, notes, etc. etc. I have a cousin in So. California who comes from the same set of brothers in Loudoun, she from John Nicholas Phillips (b. ca 1775), me from brother Peter Phillips (b. 1768). Their father Nicholas Phillips first shows up in records we have when he leased some property in 1767 from John Norton. Nicholas' leased 150 acres property was somewhere between Dutchman's Creek and Catoctin Creek. Where Nicholas came from or whom he married we don't know. Usually men didn't wait 10 years to start having kids, so Nicholas may have been alone for along time. Curious.

Your Reuben could not be a brother--IF a Thomas Phillips (Wales) proves to be the father of our John, as Thomas' will seems to indicate. However we are researching whether the father of our John is in fact another John Phillips (Ireland). We do not yet have proof or descendants but there is evidence that this might be the truth. In which case there might be a Reuben. Do you know anything of Reuben's parentage?
