If not, you should definitely consider it. DNA studies work very successfully on straight line male descendants like the two of you, so your DNA is a precious commodity. The administrator of the project is named Harry Shannon Phillips and his email address is [email protected] in case you would like to contact him directly. He goes by his middle name Shannon. Here is a link to the Phillips Worldwide website at familytreedna.com: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/PhillipsWorldwide. If you click on "Y Results" at the top of the page, it will take you to a DNA chart that shows the results of all the participants thus far. The project has attracted 85 participants and 12 unrelated families of Phillips have been identified. In addition, there are 28 participants who do not match any other Phillips in the project. So much for the theory that we are all descended from only 5 or 6 original Phillips immigrants to the New World. The participant gets a break with regard to the cost of the tests if he participates in the Phillips Worldwide DNA project. The 12 marker test costs $99, the 25 marker test costs $148, the 37 marker test costs $189 and the 59 marker test costs $269. I recommend the 25 marker test as the best value for your money, if you can afford it. The DNA test is painless and only requires swabbing the inside of the cheek with a special toothbrush. The lab mails a kit to the participant and then the participant mails the kit back to them. The kit is assigned a number and the name of the participant is never published, thereby assuring privacy and confidentiality. Also, the lab only looks at the Y-chromosome, and everyone has a total of 46 chromosomes, so this test cannot identify you or compromise your privacy. I really hope you will both decide to join the project if you have not done so already. Sincerely, Nancy Kiser
