    1. Hannah Phillips @ 1761, CT or MA
    2. Jim
    3. In looking at my grandfather's pedigree this morning, I just realized that another dead end on his side is that of his g g g grandmother, Hannah Phillips. All I know is that she married Elisha Hall (son of Ichabod and Lois (Kibbe)) who was born 23 Nov. 1751 in Enfield, CT.. His son, Luke, my grandfather's g g grandfather, was born June 16, 1771 in New Marlborough, MA. Therefore, Elisha and Hannah were probably married 1770 or 71 in either Enfield or New Marlborough. My previous post (Moses Hall @ 1827 Canada) mentioned that we thought the Indian legend came from my grandfather's mother's side because of the appearance in pictures of his mother, aunt and half-uncle.but my research showed no sign of Indian. However, I have learned, since that original posting on the Quebec board) that Phillips is a very common last name adopted by Indians of the northeast.specifically the Abenaki. Hannah Phillips is on my grandfather's mother's side.unlike the Canadian Phillips that is on his father's side. If anyone may know of a direction to point me to concerning either of these Phillips lines it would be most appreciated. Incidentally, both of these Philipses married a Hall.from separate Hall lines! How ironic! Thank you, Jim

    3. This is a HUGE stab in the dark for a dead end of mine as I am at a loss as to what to do next. My great grandfather (Moses Phillips) was born in Canada about 1858. Until recently, I only knew he was French Canadian. In searching Massachusetts censuses, I found that he came here when he was young with his father (Moses Phillips @ 1827), mother (Elizabeth @ 1829) and siblings. All were born in Canada with the exception his mother who was born in New York somewhere. The family shows up in the Massachusetts 1870 and 1880 censuses and that is all. Moses, Jr. died in 1887 in MA. If anyone might have an idea of where I might start looking for this family in Canada, any pointers would most certainly be appreciated. One last item. According to family folklore, my grandfather, F C Phillips, was 6 generations from an Indian Chief. I have traced his mother's side and there is no hint of Native Americans on her side. If this is true, the Native American may lie with his paternal g g g grandparents.who likely were born in the 1720-1750 time frame. The only reason I mention this is that if it is true, it might hinder, or help, piecing things together. My assumption is that the Native American could come from either side of the border. Thanks again!!!! Jim

    2. Cathey Cline
    3. Hi, I am requesting that someone please look at the 1880 census record for Mary Phillips who was a widow on the 1880 census for Williams Ranch, Brown Co., TX, with children Sarah 12, Charles 10, Susan 8, and George 3. The identity of Mary's parents would be a nice bonus, but at this point I would gladly settle for identifying I Mary's spouse, the man I hope was the father of her children. Susan was my great-grandmother. I can't tell for certain what the birthplace of Mary's father is, and I don't know what his name was either. If I did, I could look up his records and verify it. Anyway, I thought the birthplace of Sarah's father might be one clue to his identity, but that space in Sarah's record has ditto marks. I assume it means that the birthplace of Sarah's father is the same as the birthplace of Mary's father. It looks like it might be Alabama, but it looks too much like a scrawl to me. The birthplace of Mary's mother appears to be Alabama, and for Sarah it's a single apostrophe which I assume means it's the same as Mary's mother. The birthplace of the parents for the other 3 children is completely blank. I really appreciate any information that you can provide, thanks so much, Cathey Cline If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten. --------------------------------- Yahoo!
