Mary Phillips Raines Patton's certificate states that she and her father were both born in Kentucky. Most of my research says Barren Co. Kentucky. Nathan Phillips lists both James and Honor (his parents) as being born in Kentucky. Both deaths were in Missouri. The death certificates are through the Secretary of State web site for Missouri. They have all deaths in Missouri between 1910 and 1955 listed. They also have the death certificates up through 1925 available for you to download or print off. I will say there are some exceptions. My husband's great grandmother died in 1912, but you have to request a look up for it for some reason. Any others after 1925 are listed by name and date of death, but you have to request a copy of the death certificate through Sec. of State office, but it only costs a dollar for the copy. Also, for folks interested in Mary Phillips Raines Patton, she is listed with William Pa! tton in the 1880 census in Missouri. Also listed as living with them is Isaac N. Patton. On the same page, Thomas Patton and his wife are listed with sons John W. and Samuel. I have seen quite a few people looking for a Hannah/Honor Phillips as married to a John Sturgeon. I don't think this is the same Honor married to this James, although I can't really prove it. I know this James is specifically married to Honor Flatt because their names are listed on Nathan's death certificate, and Honor's maiden name was clearly Flatt. Hope this makes things a little clearer. And for those unfamiliar with Missouri, Andrew county and Buchanan county are right next to each other. Savannah is the big city in Andrew County, and St. Joseph (yep, the Pony Express, Jesse James St. Joseph) are only about 5 minutes apart. While Nathan died in Savannah and is buried there, Mary P. R.Patton died in a small town in Andrew county, Whitesville, and is buried there. Other people in my husba! nd's direct line died in Buchanan county. If you are looking for peop le in and around Andrew county Missouri, you should really go to their web site through the USGen project. They have indexed and photographed most of the cemeteries in Andrew county. They have photographed the stones invidually. Unfortunately, Whitesville is a big cemetery that hasn't been done yet, but we have been there and it is very well kept up. We located Mary's stone easily. On the up side, Savannah's cemetery is much larger, and they do have that done.

Hello everyone, My great-grandfather, Tucker Munro Phillips lived in Phillipsburg, Missouri around 1900 and married Lottie Maude Auberry. I am looking for his family line. I believe his mother's name was probably Louisa, but have no idea what her maiden name was or who Tuck's father was except that he was from Tennessee and possibly spent time in Arkansas and may have been on the Trail of Tears, maybe not. Tuck claimed he was half Cherokee. His first marriage was to a Native American. They had a baby but she and the baby were burnt alive by white vigilantes, probably because of their being a mixed family. Tuck did look Native American in that he was tall and sinewy, had high cheekbones, and straight, black hair. Does anyone have PHILLIPS ancestors who married Native Americans or who were themselves Native Americans? I found some research to indicate he was in Oklahoma Indian Territory recently widowed and living with his brother-in-law, a Mr. Reynolds. Also I found that he was probably born in Arkansas on Osage land or former Osage land. The clues are few and far between though. He himself was born too late to have been on the Trail of Tears around 1838, as I recall. Any clues would be most appreciated. Victoria Bennett great-granddaughter of Tucker Munro Phillips and Lottie Maude Auberry (daughter of Thomas Auberry)
Hi, For starters, you might try going to familysearch.org. Just type in the surname you are researching. If it doesn't come up immediately, be creative with the spelling and something might still come up. Unless you are interested in the genealogy products, you can ignore their ads. They are very helpful it you write them. Also, be sure to check under Bibliography and then Research Sources to see if any books have been written about those with your surnames. Also, there are many surname look-up books, some no doubt in the library. You also might try that. I wouldn't take any of them as the last word, though. Often individual family lines seem to pop up in other places and if you go back further you may find they were only at the locations indicated during certain periods, that the names had changed or been altered for political or religious reasons etc. Cheers, Victoria Bennett Researching Tucker Munro Phillips, circa 1900, La Clede County, Missouri
