Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/nNABAIB/7547 Message Board Post: The Phillips DNA Project, http://www.familytreedna.com/public/PhillipsWorldwide/, is attempting to find documented male descendants of all the original male Phillips immigrants to the New World and encourage them to join the Phillips Worldwide DNA project. Thus far, our project has 87 participants and we have identified 12 different Phillips families that are not related. In addition, we have 35 participants whose DNA does not match anyone else in the project. DNA genealogical surname studies work very successfully on straight line male descendants, so their DNA is a precious commodity. The DNA test is painless and only involves swabbing the inside of the cheek with a special brush or scraper. The lab mails a kit to the participant and then the participant mails the kit back to the lab. The kit is assigned a number and the name of the participant is never published, thereby assuring privacy and confidentiality. Also, the lab only looks at certain markers on the male Y-chromosome, so this test does not identify any medical problems or other sensitive information. The DNA test is not free, but the participant gets a break with regard to the cost of the test if he participates in the Phillips Worldwide DNA project. In addition, financial aid may be available if the candidate belongs to an especially representative or large Phillips line and has excellent documentation. The following Phillips men appear on the 1790 reconstructed census for Delaware: James Phillips Mispillion Hundred, Kent Thomas Phillips Brandywine Hundred, New Castle James Phillips Christiana Hundred, New Castle John Phillips Christiana Hundred, New Castle William Phillips Christiana Hundred, New Castle William D Phillips Christiana Hundred, New Castle Evan Phillips Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle John Phillips Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle John R Phillips Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle Jos Phillips Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle Robt Phillips Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle William Phillips Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle John Phillips Jun Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle Wilson Y Phillips Pencader Hundred, New Castle Henry Phillips White Clay Creek Hundred, New Castle Thomas Phillips White Clay Creek Hundred, New Castle Athel Phelps Broad Creek Hundred, Sussex Benjm Phillips Dagsboro Hundred, Sussex Elroy Phillips Dagsboro Hundred, Sussex John Phillips Dagsboro Hundred, Sussex John Phillips Dagsboro Hundred, Sussex Joseph Phillips Dagsboro Hundred, Sussex Purnel Phillips Dagsboro Hundred, Sussex Spencer Phillips Dagsboro Hundred Danl Philips Little Creek Hundred Danl Philips Little Creek Hundred Elizah Philips Little Creek Hundred Isaac Philips Little Creek Hundred Roger Philips Little Creek Hundred James Phillips Little Creek Hundred Joshua Phillips Little Creek Hundred Richard Phillips Little Creek Hundred Richard Phillips Little Creek Hundred If you are a straight line male Phillips descendant of one of these men and you are willing to join the DNA project, or if you know someone who is a straight line male descendant of one of these men, please contact me at [email protected] or Shannon Phillips at [email protected] Shannon is the volunteer project administrator for the Phillips Worldwide DNA project. By the way, we are all volunteers and Phillips descendants and are not being paid to pursue this project. Thank you for taking the time to read this message and we look forward to hearing from you. I hope and believe that this new scientific tool is going to solve many genealogy puzzles and tear down many brick walls. Sally Phillips
