    3. My Phillips line dates back to Wales and came to the US in about 1636. That person was Matthew Phillips one of the early settlers of Virginia. My line then moved to the Gibson Co. and Humboldt area of TN and possible lived other places in TN before coming to Red River Co. TX between 1850 and 1860. Do any of you have Phillips family members who might match up to these dates and places? Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/nNABAIB/5608.1.1.1.1.3.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Great, Myron. You would be a wonderful addition to the Phillips Worldwide DNA project. We now have 100 participants and have identified 14 different families. Here is a link to the page where you can join up: http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=X66026&special=true Scroll down the page and fill in your name, address, etc. Then click on the arrow under "Test Descriptions" and you will see a drop down menu listing all the different types of tests that you can order. I recommend the Y-DNA25 test for $148 since I feel it gives you the best information for the least amount of money. You can pay for the kit on-line with your credit card. The DNA test is painless and only requires swabbing the inside of the cheek with a special brush or scraper. The lab mails a kit to the participant and then the participant mails the kit back to the lab. The kit is assigned a number and the name of the participant is never published, thereby assuring privacy and confidentiality. If you have any more questions about DNA testing for genealogical purposes (or questions about Phillips families in general, especially in the South), please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or the administrator of the Phillips Worldwide DNA project, Harry Shannon Phillips, at [email protected] (Shannon goes by his middle name.) We are both very excited about the possibilities of this new tool in genealogical research. By the way, all of us at Phillips Worldwide are volunteers and none of us are getting paid to help with this project. Sincerely, Nancy Kiser

    2. Carl..............I wasn't going to respond, but figured anyone living in a place called Hangtown should get an answer before it's too late. Thanks to you and Nancy, I got unstuck and my DNA kit arrived today. I may be the one with the "false information" quote. The reference was not to West Virginia, but to some Picton Castle info I've seen in the past. Thought I'd sent it to the individual........not the list. Sorry. Best, Allen
