Calvin, This is also to suggest you are being hasty about a person who made a simple computer-operating error; not malicious , not habitual, just a one-off keyboard error. But it was such a lovely message. Think what a treasure it would be to find something similar written by a grandparent 100 years ago. It was warm and sweet with such personal insight and humor. The writer, if she wishes, can request it be deleted from the archives. I do hope she will be reinstated for this was simply a small mistake. This woman should be keeping a journal. I'm sure this was a mistake. When they changed the list over they made it so that when you hit reply your reply goes to the ENTIRE List instead of to the person who sent the original post. On another family list I'm on it was disastrous when someone thought they were sending a "personal" email and they used some bad language while talking about a cousin on the list who had been putting down their research on the list. The message sent to this list was harmless and I'm sure the one who "mistakenly" sent it feels quite bad enough without being kicked off the list. Take care all and happy researching. Nancy

Hi list! I'm looking for more info on Miles Phillips. He was born in Aug. 1835 in Illinois to Edward and Sarah (unknown maiden name) Phillips. Miles died after June 1900 as he is in the 1900 US Census for Des Moines County, Iowa. Miles was married to Margaret Gallaher and they had the following children: Ella, Frank, Bell, and Katherine. I have siblings for Miles as: Silas, Marion & Mary (twins; boy & girl), Phebe & Louisa. Most of this info I've obtained from US Census searches. The Phillips family from around 1850 lived in Henry County and later Des Moines County, Iowa. Thanks for any help! Kerrie Hand [email protected]
I don't know for sure, but i belive I have heard my grandfather talk about him when I was growing up. Dear Carol, Seeing your Phillips note, I'd like to mention two men named Charles and John PHILLIPS, who were in Kentucky in the early 1800s. My gr-gr-grandfather, Charles PHILLIPS, was born in North Carolina, married Jemima (her maiden name HARDY), who was from Craven County, NC, with a very, very well-documented line of ancestors in the PHILLIPS family as well as in the HARDY family. (In other words, Jemima's huband was Charles PHILLIPS, her mother was Mary PHILIPS from Craven County, NC; and her father was John HARDY.) And Jemima [Hardy] Phillips was the granddaughter of John PHILLIPS, who mentioned her in his Craven County NC will in the late 1700s and was himself born and baptized in Virginia in 1726. I don't want to bore you to death, but it's important to say that all this is thoroughly documented, unlike a lot of things on the Internet. My father, William Mason PHILLIPS, was born in Franklin County KY. All good wishes, Mary Jane Phillips in New York City ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carol Lang" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, October 20, 2006 5:19 PM Subject: [PHILLIPS] Early Kentucky Phillips Can anyone identify the Charles Phillipsand John Phillips in Captain Benjamin Logan's Company near Logan's Stiation abt 1779? Other names lead me to believe that some of these went on to Livingston Co, KY and downward to Caldwell, Trigg, Calloway and Graves Cos. Is this the John bc 1789 husband of Nancy that is in early Hickman Co, KY (parent of several of the above counties)? My greatgrandfather was Jacob Phillips died between 1881 and 1900 census. Wife, Mary Story(bn 1839), was from Graves Co, and there is a Jacob Phillips that according to the 1870 census is dead....and couldn't have married a dead man and had 2 children. Other alternative is that she married a much younger man, Jacob Jr(bn abt 1856). Also, is there a site that I can send my picture of Jake for other Phillips to see?
