    1. [PHILLIPS] Elizabeth PHILLIPS,b. 1800-1820
    2. Hi, PHILLIPS cousins. My g-g-grandmother was Elizabeth (Lou?) PHILLIPS. She was born in SC circa 1810. She married an Irishman named Tom JORDAN. Their first child, Emaline, was born circa 1835 in NC. Shortly afterward, they were living in TN. They lived in Roane Co., Bledsoe Co and White Co. Elizabeth is listed in the census reports in TN, along with all the children. But Tom is never mentioned. He must have been alive, because Elizabeth had several children, AND my grandpa (born 1877) knew him. I do not know where in SC Elizabeth was born, but have been told there was a large colony of Irish PHILLIPS in or near Charleston, SC. I do not even know if my Elizabeth was Irish. If Elizabeth was Irish, perhaps Tom JORDAN, who came from Ireland, was a family friend. I don't know when or where Elizabeth married Tom JORDAN, or why they left SC. They seem to be headed to TN when they left SC because they did not stay in NC after Emaline was born in 1835. They may have been headed to East TN to meet up with Elizabeth's relatives already there. This is just a guess. I do know that they lived next door to some PHILLIPS. If anyone has any info on this Elizabeth PHILLIPS, I would truly appreciate it. Thanks in advance. Karlene

Surnames: PHILLIPS Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.phillips/7751/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Atlanta GA as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Soldier: LEE HUGH PHILLIPS Born: FEB. 3, 1030, Caucasian Date of loss: November 27, 1950, KIA When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The Phillips family is one of those missing. When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency. I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family. Born 14 July 1926, Rich Hill, Mo. Entered service at: Labadie, Mo. Citation. For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving with the 2d Battalion, 28th Marines, 5th Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces during the seizure of Iwo Jima in the Volcano Islands, on 14 March 1945. Standing the foxhole watch while other members of his squad rested after a night of bitter handgrenade fighting against infiltrating Japanese troops, Pvt. Phillips was the only member of his unit alerted when an enemy handgrenade was tossed into their midst. Instantly shouting a warning, he unhesitatingly threw himself on the deadly missile, absorbing the shattering violence of the exploding charge in his own body and protecting his comrades from serious injury. Stouthearted and indomitable, Pvt. Phillips willingly yielded his own life that his fellow marines mi! ght carry on the relentless battle against a fanatic enemy. His superb valor and unfaltering spirit of self-sacrifice in the face of certain death reflect the highest credit upon himself and upon the U.S. Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life for his country.
