    3. Dean, I have a copy of an article titled "Biographical Sketch of Hunt Phelan" published in The National Cyclopedia. A brief synopsis follows: William Richardson (Hunt) PHELAN was a lawyer born in Louisville, Ky on 10-8-1873, son of George Richardson Phelan and Julia Tate Hunt. His parents were temporarily in KY having gone there from Memphis, TN to escape a yellow fever epidemic. His godparents were Jefferson DAVIS and Mrs. Davis. His great grandfather was James PHELAN, a native of Marysborough, Queens (now Leix) Co., Ireland, a graduate of Trinity College, Dublin, a soldier and patriot in the Irish cause, who came to the US in 1793, settling first in NY city. At different times he lived in New Brunswick, NJ, Baltimore, MD, Richmond, VA & Huntsville, AL being in the banking business. JAMES PHELAN, who married Eliza Jones Moore, was a noted lawyer in Mississippi and Alabama, a senator from MS in the Confederate congress in 1862-63, judge advocate of the Confederate States, 1864-65 and after the Civil War practiced law in Memphis, TN. His gggrandson, Bill Day, lives here in Memphis, TN Hope this will help prove that he was born in the US.
