JO - There could be a connection. Do you know where in County Kilkenny your Catherine Phelan was from?? Mine married Charles Jackman in 1827 and they both died in the mid 1840's, probably in the Leapstown area (a few miles northwest of Kilkenny City). Four of their children,including my great grandfather Patrick Jackman, emigrated to Iowa in the 1850's.
