Hello, Cousins Ernie Phelan emailed me his lengthy "report" which indicates that Edmund PHELAN married Elcey SMITH in Pitt County, NC. (Newbern District). He shows Edmund living alone on the 1790 census there. His two sons, David and Thomas, were born in NC. David 10 May 1797. David m. Susan HARDEE. Thomas (no dates) m. Patsey GRIFFIN. I was definitely able to connect my Joseph G. PHELAN to Edmund. Joseph was a son of David. Joseph G. was b. in NC. in 1823, but married Amamda SPENCER in Gibson County, TN 6 Oct 1842. I have researched most of the descendants and have spent the summer typing everything into my Generations Family Tree software. I would like to trace these Phelans back to Ireland, where my grandmother said they came from. I would appreciate any leads that would get Edmund and / or Elcey back across the water. Ernie has posted several messages on rootsweb, which is how I found him. I have emailed him recently with no reply. He may be busy, on vacation or whatever. Be warned that I have not gone to primary sources yet to verify all of the infromation back past my J. Green PHELAN. However Ernie had documented much of his work with census records, land deeds, etc. You may find some of his old postings at this site. Brenda
Does anyone know where Edmund Phelan was before 1790? Is David the Gibson Co line?
