I am looking to establish an Irish connection for my great grandparents, John Power and Roseann Phelan. John was born about 1815 and Roseann was born in 1823. They spent most, if not all of their lives in St. Mary’s Newfoundland. They or their parents were born in or around Waterford Ireland. Their children Michael, James, John, Margaret and Johanna were all born in the St. Mary’s area of Newfoundland in the 1840’s/50’s. I beleive John’s father was also called John and it is likely that it was he who immigrated to Newfoundland around 1800 +/- Headstones of the early Irish in St. Mary’s would indicate that many of them came from the Waterford/Kilmacthomas/Dungarvin area.
