Just joined this list....have a couple of Phelan's in my husband's chart in Brooklyn, NY.... 1880 NY census shows Michael Dooley and Mary Phalen (my husband's gg-gmother) (born Ireland abt 1840) with the following children: Anna Dooley, Mary, Bridget Theresa, Margaret, Elizabeth, Helen.... I believe that Michael Dooley and Mary Phalen were in NY from at least 1867, as their oldest daughter is noted as born in NY in that year.... the next listing in the census (neighbors-relatives?) are Phalen, James w m 41 occ. laborer born Ireland Anna wife, 36 occ: housekeeper b. Ireland Mary daughter, 13, born NY Anna daughter, 11, born NY James, son, 6 , born NY John, son, 3 , born NY Thomas, son, 1 , born NY Steniware (sp?) Henry, boarder, 21 occ: dentist, born NY is anyone researching Phalen in Brooklyn during this period? thanks! Charna
