    1. [PHELAN-L] Some Interesting Sites
    2. Good "Monday" to everyone!!! Been cleaning some other files and found quite a few web sites you might want to check out. Some I have looked at and some I have not but all appear to be right up our alley. Let me know if you find something terrific!!!! hehe ============================== Rendezvous with Yesterday A homepage of that explores the travels and trials of an extended family through the south and points beyond. http://www19.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/4231/ Quotations on the Life and Times of General Edward (Edmund) Lacy\Lacey of the American Revolution (1742-1813) http://www2.cy-net.net/~lacey/general.htm Site is a brief description of General Lacy's life and influence. Born in the PA Cumberland Valley area, he lived in the Carolinas, and eventually moved on to TN (a common migration pattern). The article includes references. =========================== Origin of Tennessee County Names http://www.state.tn.us/sos/countys.htm Although not strictly a trails related post, this site is neat because it covers the foundation of each county and gives the source of name for each of the counties in TN. Ever wondered who Overton County was named for? This is the place to check it out. ============================ The Homepage of American Memory http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/ This is the Library of Congress’s American Memory collection homepage. If you haven’t checked it out lately, you really should. Don’t forget to check out the WPA collection especially. These are documents made during the depression years of people recounting their past experiences, and sometimes they really contain some gems of family history. ========================== Ohio Migration Routes: This site is a map site of several of the land migration routes through Ohio...the northern ones are a little north for most of our southern migrations, but the southern ones were often used by people going into KY and places south... http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/Gwen/migration.htm Pioneer Migration Routes through Ohio Page contains, among other things, a nice summary of Zane's trace, which connected western VA to KY through Ohio. http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/pioneer.html Historic American Highways Page lists a number of highways, and also transportation keypoints from early colonial days through 1840...a neat reference in list form http://www.infinet.com/~dzimmerm/highway.html Check them out...a useful set of research articles for your KY or MO ancestors, in particular. .............more to follow............
