    3. Ros, it sounds like you're subscribed in the digest mode so you'll have to unsubscribe from the digest address which is Phelan-D-request@rootsweb.com . This is why when you sent your cancellation request to the mail mode (Phelan-L) the automated message said you were not subscribed there. Sorry you're having problems but if you'll try one more time and send a message to the above address and put only the word unsubscribe in the message, you'll be off in no time. Hope you'll come back soon. Thanks, Glenda > Dear List, > I have been trying (unsuccesfully) for quite some time now to unsubscribe. > I have tried PHELAN-L-request@rootsweb.com and you replied firstly I am not > on your list, then later that I have received messages that I been removed > from the list, but I am still receiving PHELAN-D Digest messages, the last > one being Digest V01 #1. > I would be very grateful if you could sort this out for me. > Regards > Ros

There is a "rumer" in the family that Martin came to the U.S. from Canada but not sure. I will get to this more and again thank you for your offer of help. 1. [Phelan] Problems with mailing list server
    2. Kenneth Womack
    3. Rootsweb has been having problems and they have moved the Phelan mailing list to a new server. They have transferred all information to a new box that could be safely recovered form the old list and then recovered data from their back-up from last week. There has been some small loss of recent changes to mailing list subscriptions . Some people who had subscribed will now be unsubscribed, and those who had unsubscribed will be subscribed. This is due to the fact that they have recovered infromation from back-ups. I If you are receiving this message and you have previously unsubscribed, I apologize and ask that you please unsubscribe again. To do so go to Phelan-L-request@rootsweb.com and put only the word unsubscribe in the body of the letter. You should receive an automated letter saying you have been deleted. If anyone has any problems, please let me know and I'll try to help. Thanks, Glenda (listmanager)

    1. [Fwd: [PHELAN] Jeremiah Phelan/Kane Co., IL/1872]
    2. Pat Dailey
    3. Dawn, I'm interested in the Kane Co. IL connection. It's a possibility. My ggfather, John Phelan (b. Ire abt 1836-7) married Kate McGrath (m13JAN1866) in Quincy, IL. They had five children and lived in Keokuk, Iowa. John drowned (d27JUN1877) while fishing on the Mississippi at age 40. I found an entry in the 1865? (can't find my exact ref right now) Quincy census for a John Phelan, but it showed no other Phelans. I'm trying to connect him to a Phelan family, and IL is probable. Wondering how he got to Quincy. There weren't many McGraths listed either, but I know they had a Irish Catholic church there at the time. Also Robert and Francis are important names in the family. Any ideas? Thanks, Patricia Phelan Dailey HASBENN@aol.com wrote: > Rene', I have a Thomas, but the time frames don't match up. Darn it.
