Does anyone have any info on Thomas Marion Phelan m. L. Maude Potts? Both from Hot Spring Co., AR. Phyllis
Mary, the Columbia Co mentioned in the pass port for Evans Phelan in my previous post was probably the one you've mentioned below and in GA. What do you think? Dawn, I was talking about Thomas Phelan's son, Jeremiah b. 1777. The reason I'm confused is I found a record of a Jeremiah from Washington Co., AR who died 26 May 1862, he was a private citizen but was buried in the Confederate Cemetary in Alton, IL. I got this info from a book I found at the ARK History Commision "Register of Confederate Soldiers and Sailors who Died in Federal Prisons and Military Hospitals in the North" which was compiled in the office of the commissioner for marking graves of confederate dead, War Department, 1912. Just curious who he was. Does anyone have any info on Jeremiah's (b. 1777) brother, EVANS M. PHELAN who was born 1775. I have a note taken from a book titled "Passports of Southeastern Pioneers, 1770-1823" which is in the Memphis library which says: "Executive Department, Monday 22nd November 1802. On a recommendation from Sundry respectable inhabitants of Columbia County, ordered that a Pass port through the Creek nation to the western Territory be prepared for EVAN PHELAN. #119.' The following was found in the Deed books for Bledsoe CO where my greatgrandfather, James Monroe Phelan, was born in 1824. "Bledsoe County Deed Book D, page 321 Deed dated 19 March 1828...Evans Phelan of Bledsoe County and State of Tennessee to John Nail of county and state aforesaid...$215.00...parcel of land in county of Bledsoe on Cumberland Mountain on the waters of Bee Creek...description...s/Evans Phelan...Witnesses: Elijah Tucker, Thomas Jordan...Recorded May 7, 1829" ================SNIP >Depends on which Jeremiah you are needing. Folks, the following went out today on the internet. Anyone that is subscribed to this guy's list will read about us and perhaps we'll get a rush of new subscribers soon. Tonight and tomorrow would be a good time to post queries. This is the same guy who will put our Phelan mailing list out to Cyndi's list, Rootsweb, etc. If you notice, he said it may take awhile for those, so be patient. I'll let YOU know as soon as I know. We are now 20 strong and growing...... Rootsweb mailing list contacted me today for information on how we wanted the Phelan information shown on the announcement they put out. Some of the variants I asked them to show was: Phalan, Philin, Pheland, Phelon, and a couple more but right now can't remember them. They will notify Cyndi's List and two other popular ones and as soon as the announcement hits everyone's list, we should have lots of new subscribers. I'll send a copy to list of the announcement when I receive it so you can start reposting your queries. Keep up the good work on posting to the list. If anyone wants to look at archives to look at everything posted since yesterday morning, use the following procedure: Send an e-mail message to [email protected] and put " archive " in the subject line and " search Phelan latest/* " in the body of the letter. The archive messages will be automatically sent to you. It's a little awkward and a little heard to read but I believe you can make it out. Happy searching, Glenda Womack Listowner
