    2. Kenneth Womack
    3. Found this website on a Phelan. Don't know if this owner is on our list or not but thought I'd pass it on in case someone wanted to take a look at it. It starts off with a Patrick & Mary Phelan and mentions PA & DELAWARE. I didn't see a date. http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/9631/Phelan.htm Glenda

    3. Karen Anne, you've been on list since the first couple of days SO did this just start or been this way from beginning? As of 1:15 a.m. this morning, you're on list subscribed only the one time. Have you ever had this problem before. I've had it happen to me a couple of times - one time I was getting 5 x messages - what a trip. But next day when I logged on it cleared up. Never did know what happened. If still happening today, let me know and I'll send query to my New-listowners mailing list and see if anyone else having same trouble. Sorry - hope it lets up today. PLEASE don't unsubscribe until we get a chance to look at it. Thanks, Glenda -----Original Message----- From: KAREN NICHOLAS <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Friday, September 04, 1998 8:25 AM Subject: [PHELAN-L] Getting doubles.... >Hey Glenda, I am getting doubles of all the messages. 1. [PHELAN-L] Message from Listowner

    3. This mailing list is provided by Rootsweb which is supported primarily by private donations sent in by internet users. I have received the following memo from the co-ordinator and the reason I feel comfortable passing this on to you is the thrill I've had bringing this Phelan list up and getting such good response from you guys that it was a very needed mailing list. I was able to become listowner of two mailing lists with a donation of only $25 per year. What a bargain!! Not to mention that my $25 helped them buy more equipment to keep us all on line and enjoying this wonderful hobby of genealogy. If anyone on list would be interested in also becoming a listowner for one of your other surnames, I'll be happy to talk to you about it or you can check the website mentioned in the following note. Believe me, if I can do, anybody can do it. I've only been working on the computer and been on the internet since Xmas and I'm certainly no brain surgeon, as you can probably tell from my notes. If you have questions after going on-line, they have a newbie-listowner mailing list where you can ask stupid questions and get good info so you are not out on your own by yourself. Enough said - just wanted to share a little bit of what I've learned since joining up with Rootsweb 2 weeks ago. Thanks, Glenda =============snip In August, use of RootsWeb grew on average about 15%. While we're more than pleased by our growth, it *is* forcing us to upgrade our servers and increase our bandwidth, which in turn severely strains our limited financial resources. If you'd like to help RootsWeb grow, please consider becoming a RootsWeb Member or Sponsor. Information on how to do that follows the statistics. Here are the detailed statistics on our August operations: o 3,078 independently-authored Websites are hosted by RootsWeb. o 57,294,189 total Web hits: - 15,545,371 were HTML pages. - 8,116,870 were cgi-bin database searches and such. - 33,435,089 were graphics (gifs, jpegs, etc). o 1,161,830 FTP file downloads from the USGenWeb Archives and the ROOTS-L Library. o 4,186 independently-operated mailing lists are hosted by RootsWeb. o We shipped 103,079,174 pieces of e-mail to our mailing lists. o 60,000 alt.g and s.g.* Usenet News articles to hosts on three continents. o We shipped approximately 926,726,400,000 bytes in total (next month we may break 1 Terabyte!). RootsWeb remains supported primarily by our users -- your contributions keep us alive. Folks who would like to become a RootsWeb Member or Sponsor (the cost is very modest) are invited to visit: http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html *** You can become a Member easily using your credit card and our new secure server. *** Support from the Internet genealogical community is *crucial* to RootsWeb's operation. The continuing growth in use has led to both our main Web server and our main list server being pretty much maxed out. Contributions that we can employ to upgrade our servers are essential for us to be able to continue bringing more genealogical Websites and mailing lists online. Also, we would like to publicly thank Palladium Interactive, publishers of the superb Ultimate Family Tree software, for their generous support of RootsWeb: http://www.palladium.net/ Thanks to everyone who participates in RootsWeb -- clearly folks are continuing to exchanging a great deal of information! -B -- Dr. Brian Leverich Co-moderator, soc.genealogy.methods/GENMTD-L RootsWeb Genealogical Data Cooperative http://www.rootsweb.com/ P.O. 3. I received the following note from a Bill Utterback, listowner for the KYPurchase list and hope someone can help him: >RE: Phelan >I'm not sure that I can shed any light on the ILL Phelan clan. My interest in the >family is a corollary one. My ggg-uncle, Richard Montgomery Skaggs, had some >Phelan folds living with him the 1860's in Dunklin Co., MO. >When he wrote his will in 1866, he named "....my trust friend...", William G. Phelan, >as executor. Since the phrase, "my trust friend", can indicate kinship when used in a >will, I have been scratching around trying to see if I could connect the families. No >luck so far, either on the Skaggs side, or on the Norsworth side (Richard's wife was >Isabella Norsworthy). I have not seen anything yet to indicate ILL connections. >If you happen to see anything that looks like a connection to Dunklin and Stoddard >Co., MO in your Phelan research, I'd be interest in hearing about it. Bill U. >[email protected] If anyone can help Bill, you can e-mail him direct but would like to hear about it on the list, too. Thanks, Glenda in Memphis
