Michelle Nardone inquired about histories or the Pfalz in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. I know of no histories of the Pfalz published in English although there may be in German. Others might know better than I. There are several specialized books on church history or the intellectual ferment of the 1848 revolution. How- ever to begin with I suggest a good history of the French military campaigns in the late 18th century to set the stage and then two general histories of Germany: The long 19th century: a history of Germany, 1780-1918 by David Blackbourne, and The history of Germany since 1789. by Golo Mann translated from the German by Marian Jackson. One or the other ought to be available in a local library. I have not checked to see if they can be bought. Rob Hausman ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Robert E.
