    3. Hello Bob Gillis Thank you for your helpful response. I have recently learned that for specific periods in history laws have forced people to be married (by Episcopal priests in Ontario in early 1800s) or baptized (in Church of Ireland in Ireland in late 1800s) in specific churches no matter what (or in spite of) their chosen religion. I wonder if this were true in the Rheinland Pfalz. Did one have to practice the religion of the local ruler? It looks as if I need to learn more about the history of the area and to discern the precise locations of the very changeable boundaries between the areas controlled by dukes of different religions. The actual microfilms that the LDS have of the actual church records contain much more information than what can be found in the extracted IGI records especially if you know someone who can easily translate the early German writings. The fact that Jacob was listed as a master ropemaker and councilman are not included in the IGI records nor are the three persons who are listed as the godparents of Johann Christoph SCHACKE. The godparents for him were listed as: Johann Michael SCHWARTZ, citizen and butcher here: Johann Christoph GRANEISSEN, master of a farm estate: Maria Magdalena, wife of Johann Casimir EVERHARD, citizen and master baker here. I certainly appreciate all the comments and added information that is being provided. Lesley Shockey
