    3. Katherine, THe LDS Family History Library catalog is online at FamilySearch. It shows that there are Evangelische (Lutheran), Evangelisch-Reformierte, and Katholische records on microfilm. These microfilms can be rented at your local LDS Family History Center (even in NZ). ================================= Kirchenbuch, 1684-1808 Evangelische Kirche Meisenheim (Kr. Meisenheim) (Main Author) Parish register of baptisms, marriages, deaths, confirmations, for Meisenheim, Preußen, Rheinland, Germany and surrounding area. Kirchenbuch, 1607-1822 Evangelisch-Reformierte Kirche Meisenheim (Glan) (Main Author) Parish register transcripts of baptisms, marriages, communicants (mostly statistics), confirmations, deaths, preachers, etc. of Meisenheim Glan and vicinity. ================================= Unfortunately for you, Meisenheim appears to be an administrative office ("county seat") and may have been a reference point identified by your ancestor, rather than the specific local village. ShtetlSeeker shows there are about 250 villages within 10 miles. There is this entry in the IGI Files at the FamilySearch website you should be aware of. =============================== IGI Individual Record FamilySearch™ International Genealogical Index v5.0 SUSSANNA FRIEDERICKA KOCH Birth: 15 FEB 1810 Christening: 19 FEB 1810 Evangelisch, Meisenheim, Rheinland, Preussen Father: HARTMANN KOCH Mother: FRIEDERIKA JULIANA ROGOT Extracted birth or christening record for the locality listed in the record. Batch No.: C993086 1764 - 1798 & 1805 - 1822 0193980 =============================== Many of the records for Meisenheim have been extracted (transcribed), unfortunately the extractions appear to end in 1822 for both marriages and Christenings. Also the batch that includes 1802 (1798-1808 C993083), does not have any GERMANN family Christenings. If the wedding was held in the church in Meisenheim, the c1836-1837 wedding record will give the full names of both fathers and mothers (born-as) and the village the were from. 3. Regarding the German church records - I ordered several spools from the LDS library, and then found I couldn't read them. The script and handwriting legibility of the early records was baffling. Also, for some reason the LDS people were unable to send me the correct film. It took several tries before I got one out of three spools I was looking for, and after I saw how difficult the one was to read, I canceled the other orders. Tom

    3. Hi I live in Norway abd was trying to rent the films for Callbach, Pfalz last year. But they didn't allow the films to be rented to Norway. So I guess that may be the same for New Zealand. It's not easy for us who have a long distance to go to try to find our German ancestors. Maybe I will have the time when I become a retirement penisoner about 20 years from now :)).
