How do you knowthat he was born in Ensheim, Alzey-worms Also Illinois is up river from New Orleans.and I think his name would have been Johann Freiderick Graf. Johannes is usually used when his prename and common name are the same Johan. Ensheim now is part of Alzey

    3. Al, I don't think this will really be of any help to you, but you never know. And I don't know where Ensheim is. But . . . In my research on the Catholic records from Klingenmünster, north of Bad Bergzabern, I have come across two Grafs. There may be many more. I don't know, since that is not one of my family names I have been researching. 1. Franz Graff, probably born before 1769. On 31 July 1789 he was the godfather at the baptism of Franz Rippon (one of mine). It's an interesting entry because he had quite a title, which I translated (from the Latin) crudely as: "The Noble, Magnanimus, Benificent, Vigilant Lord [some important sounding rank] in the Military." 2. Ludwig Grafft, probably born before 1702. On 6 October 1716 he was the godfather at the baptism of Anna Maria Mercktel. The godmother was also named Anna Maria Mercktel, and it is possible, but not sure, that they were betrothed at the time.
