    1. Re: [Pfalz] Ellis Island
    2. both of my mother's grandfather's were German, though I suspect one immigrated to England before he arrived in America. I'm also looking for a German ancestor of Edwins. none of them show up in either Ellis Island, Castle Garden or the Immigrant ships guild, searching both by given name and by surnames. however one of them shows up sporaticly in Ancestry's immigration records...but not for his original immigration, as far as I can find. Jacob Dunheiffer b. abt 1804 Germany arrived in America 1830-1840 his surname is not even close to whatever surname he was born under. I've tried both Dunheiffer and Tunheiffer in the IGI, which is rather general in it's soundexing, and nothing comes up. if anyone has a good idea as to what his surname is in Germany, I'd be glad to hear it. also, he appears to have a brother Christopher. Charles Wagner b. abt 1855 Poland/Russia of German nativity, said to have been raised in England. he shows up in immigration in June of 1883, presumably coming back from a shift on board ship as he was a sailor, and listed as an American citizen. this is the earliest record I can find for him so far. he marries in October of that year. Johannes Weyrauch b. abt 1792 Rh. Pfalz (of Bergzabern) naturalization states he arrived in America on 15 May 1831 at New York. he arrived with several children, and I suppose his wife Mary, though I have no proof of this. his children who came with him were Caroline, Magdelene, Michael Matthew, Frances John, and maybe several others. try as I might, I have yet to ever find these people's immigration records. not knowing when Jacob and Charles arrived doesn't help, and Jacob's surname could have been vastly different from what I find him and Christopher to have by 1840. any ideas?

Where do you fnd him first in the US Census? And you think he came from the Pfalz? Why? What do the Census say about his birth place? bob gillis

Try also Kar*. Charles is the anglicization of Carl/Karl. bob gillis
