Was there no Lutheran church in Mertesheim? In other words, I was hoping to correspond with someone else who had done research in the area and might have a few tips. Karen, Do you know where in Pfalz these towns are located? My ancestors were from Hauenstein, the closest "big" town was Pirmasens. There is a genealogical society in Pirmasens, and they had transcribed the Latin church entries of the area into present day German. I was able to write an e-mail in English to a historian there, she did not pay me for her work, but, I did buy the transcribed church records, which had been published. She did look up my 3 grgrandfather's baptism record, which helped me to zero in on Hauenstein. Other than on-line maps, I have very little knowledge about the location of the three towns. I need a basic book on German geography! Thank you for the website for the genealogy society.
