Yes, I have Googled the place names, but I was hoping to hear from someone who had first-hand knowledge, or who could tell me a little about the history of the area during the early 1800s. Also, are there any local historical centers that do research for that specific area? What Lutheran church served Monsheim? Why did the son attend church in Ebertsheim? Was there no Lutheran church in Mertesheim? In other words, I was hoping to correspond with someone else who had done research in the area and might have a few tips. Karen, Do you know where in Pfalz these towns are located? My ancestors were from Hauenstein, the closest "big" town was Pirmasens. There is a genealogical society in Pirmasens, and they had transcribed the Latin church entries of the area into present day German. I was able to write an e-mail in English to a historian there, she did not pay me for her work, but, I did buy the transcribed church records, which had been published. She did look up my 3 grgrandfather's baptism record, which helped me to zero in on Hauenstein. Maybe they could send you in the right direction for your towns or know of a genealogical society which can help you. The web address is: http://www.genealogie-in-pirmasens.de . Good luck. Other than on-line maps, I have very little knowledge about the location of the three towns. I need a basic book on German geography! Thank you for the website for the genealogy society. I am certain that they will be able to guide me in the right direction. Your suggestion is greatly appreciated.
