    3. Hello, it is again the old (hi)story. During the Vienna Congress in 1815 nobody wanted the tiny and so poor principality of Birkenfeld. Finaly the Duc of Oldenburg agreed to take the responsibility and the principality Birkenfeld became in 1816 part of the Duchy Oldenburg. After World War II Birkenfeld was integrated into Rheinland-Pfalz. Bergen lays 5 km West of Kirn on the river Nahe.
