In documenting my KUNTZ ancestors from Bruchweiler (1530-1789), I have been wondering how to describe the area that they lived in. The Rhenish Pfalz shows up frequently in histories on the Web. A 1789 map on Fred Krebs' website shows that Bruchweiler was in the territory of the Freiherr Schenk von Waldenburg (Barony of Schenk from Waldenburg ?). Is one on these more correct than the other? I am not sure if the Elector of the Rhenish Pfalz was like a king and the dukes, counts, barons, etc. served him or whether each was an entity to himself and the Elector just represented them all at voting time. Any enlightenment would be most appreciated. Lowell Kuntz
