Some list administrators insist on that. I usually only post to the person asking the question myself. If I see a question that I'd like the answer to myself I post to the list also asking for that information to be posted to the list. A lot of information is new to some and old news to others who have been here longer. I guess that I think of these lists as direction finders. When you're stuck and would like an opinion of where to go from here. Or when you run up on something you've never encountered before. Some lists have started an FAQ address for that list and carry it in the tag line for all new beginners to find basis answers. My two cents worth. JFM.
