Dear List, I am a complete beginner on German research (did get the Companion) and do not know any of the language. I have a couple of things: 1. Looking for any information for Leonard George Hause (Americanized Haub- with the German letter that looks like a "b") b 10/7/1857 d 6/24/1932 s/o George Joseph Hause b 1812 d ? m Margarete Maurer b 1821 1893 all born in Geinsheim near Neustadt, Rhineland Pflalz and died Athol,MA. George was s/o Sebastian 1787 Geinsheim m Marie Eva Scherer. Many years ago we were sent translations (from French) of a few records (the above info). 2. My father always said that his father, (Leonard) was from Bavaria and the Black Forest and came with his parents on the SS Paraguay in 1869. I don't know port of departure or landing. In tying to search this out I have found the Geinsheim was at one time part of Bavaria and it is close to the north west edge of the Black Forest. He also was said to have been Catholic, but since there was no Catholic church in Athol, MA the religion was not passed down. I have not yet found a passenger list for the Paraguay on line although I did find someone who posted that his Trounce family was aboard that ship. His website was old and not working so I couldn't contact him, but at least the ship name seems to be accurate. In doing a web search for Geinsheim, just to get information/history about the town/area I find only German sites, which are "Greek" to me. 3. Several members of my family are going on school trip to France in July which includes 3-4 days in Strasbourg. In checking the map it seems to be 50-75 miles from Neustadt/Geisheim. I doubt they will be able to get in Germany, but would the scenery be anything similar to Geisheim area? On the map Geinsheim (a very small town?) seems to between the Rhine river and the Haardt Mts. I would appreciate any information about the Neustadt/Geinsheim area. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Janet Hause Kral
