    1. [PFALZ] Rheinhessen

    3. I'm studying the area of Rheinhessen. In 1792 France invaded and it became part of the region of Monttonnerre. After Napoleon's defeat, it became part of the region of Rheinhessen and given to Hesse-Darmstadt. After 1815, Hesse-Darmstadt was part of the German Confederation. At what date did the rules and regulations of Prussia begin to apply? Was it prior to the 1871 German Reunification? Has anyone found any of the French records relating to this area? When I asked at the Family History Library I was told it would all be located under Hesse. I realize that it where they index all those records, even though the area is now Rheinland- Pfalz. But surely the French didn't leave all the records in Germany? K.D.
