My ancestors were from Sien, Kirchenbollenbach, and I have a postcard from there with a drawing of Sien, that I would gladly share with you. ----- Original Message ----- From: "bob gillis" <robertgillis@verizon.net> To: <pfalz@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, February 20, 2007 4:42 PM Subject: Re: [Pfalz] History Tereshyn, Andy (CSS) wrote: >I am new to this list and am most interested in the history of, and >reasons for emigration from the Rheinland-Pfalz, with a more specific >area of emigration to Galicia. Thank you for the information. I am looing for the history of the region in Germany where my ancestors came from - and the reasons why they emigrated, which would probably be included in the history. I have a hunch that they originally came from Alsace in the late 1600's and then moved north to the Sien / Kirchenbollenbach / Offenbach am Glan area, but why? I am aware of the organization you mention but they are more into the German settlements in Galicia / Russia and their migrations throughout the world during/after WWII, whereas I am more interested in the German origins. I have already researched the Galicia area in great detail. I have both, Wilhelm Kalbrunner, which list the dates that the various settlers left Vienna for Galicia and Russia; and also Ludwig Schneider, which lists the settlers in the various settlements in Galicia in 1788 and 1820. Within these documents, it is sometimes listed where the family came from and through that, I have been able to located and find birth records for some of the members of the families. I also have the FHL films for these areas, a listing of Pfalz marriages, and the Familienbuch by Rudi Jung for "der Katholischen Pfarreien: Kirchenbollenbach, Fischbach-Weierbach, Mittelreidenbach, Sien, and Offenbach (Glan)". Within the familienbuch, comments are inserted when the families emigr! ated to Galicia, eg. "Familie wanderte am 3.7.1784, e Personen, nach Galizien aus." I still have missing information regarding their documents but understand that there is usually someone in each village / town that is a local historian / genealogist and that there may be more records and familienbuch's that are not published or are not in the archives. I would imagine that the best way to find out more would be to travel to these villages? Some of the questions I have are: Did some members of the family stay behind in Germany? Most likely. Why did they leave? Were they serfs and given land in Galicia? Did some "escape" and illegally leave? Etc. I will check with the history departments at our local universities to see if they have anything of value. If anyone is interested in the areas that I mentioned above, I would be happy to help out where ever possible.
