Hi To All, Have been lurking & trying to learn, slow learner here. I have found after 30 + years of searching the name of the town in Germany where my G-g-grandfather came from. Heinrich APPEL was born March 16, 1811 in Krotzenburg Germany. His children were born in Altenglan Germany. The questions I have are: 1. Should I be looking for information in Bayern or in Pflaz? I am confused, I know the boundaries have changed but how do I start. 2. The family when they came to Chicago IL came about 1861 & were Lutheran's. Some people are trying to tell me that they were Catholics in the old country. I don't understand this fact. They have told me all German's of that time frame were Catholics Any & all help would be appreciated. I would love to connect with a living family member in Germany but I know that is a VERY long shot at this time. Have others found living relatives in Germany? TIA IdaKay Appel
