This is a good question but you can also ask: Why should I > use a program which is not able to cope with names existing for centuries ? > And there are programs which can cope with such names like PAF 4. I have been using Brother's Keeper for almost 9 years and am a very happy user. I had this problem several years ago when using the DOS version and an upgrade didn't translate characters correctly (this was YEARS ago), but since using the Windows version, all characters are being stored correctly. I don't have the 'ß' in any of family names but I have a lot of MILLER/MÜLLER KRAMER/KRÄMER requiring use of the umlaud. Please note that this shareware... you try it free for thirty days, and if you like it, then send them some money.
