    2. Bob Gillis asks; > >How did your people spell their surnames and where were they in the 1880 >Census. > >What are the sources of your information? > >Where else have you looked for information? > >bob gillis Jacob Dunheiffer/Dunifer (children went by Dunifer) 1804 Bavaria 1850-1860 Guernsey, OH birth date from 1850 census. birth place from daughter Martha Dunifer Moore's census records. Johannes Weyrauch/Weihrauch/Wyrough b. abt 1785 said to be Scheichen, Bavaria. d. abt 1848 Pennsylvania either Centre or Cambria Co. b. from naturalization record d. from itemization of probate/will I am under the assumption that he was Catholic, as his son Michael was, but I don't know for certain. naturalization transcript of Johannes Weyrauch (original available to view at PA State Archives, linked to Centre Co., PA USGenWeb site under "naturalizations" note "Spier" Speyer, "Berzaber" Bergzabern, "Scheichen"...??? perhaps Schweigen? Pennsylvania\ Centre Co., n/ To the Honorable Thomas Burnside, and his associate Judges of the Court of Common Pleas, to and for said Centre county The petition of Johan Weyrauch a native of the Kingdom of Bavaria & District of Spier & Canton Berzaber and now an inhabitant at Centre county, in the state of Pennsylvania, respectfully represents That he sailed from the *port of Haver the Grace on the third day of April 1831, and arrived in the city of New York in the United States of America on the 15th day of May ensuing that he was born in the Village of Scheichen and is upwards of fourty seven years of age and that he was born a subject of the Kingdom of Bavaria and owes allegiance to Ludwick the 2d King of Bavaria. that he is now settled in the said county of Centre, state of Pennsylvania, and that it is his Bone fide, his intention to become a citizen of the United States, after having complied with the acts of Congress, in such case made and provided. Sworn and subscribed in ) open Court this 30 day of > August 1832 ) James Gilliland Proth. Johannes Weijr__ch (or Weyr__ch with an oomlat) I assume this was filed in Bellefonte, as that is where Johannes was when his son Jacob was born in 1832. Christen/Christian/Christopher Ultsch/Ulsch/Utsch b. abt 1833 Bavaria d. aft 1910 Monoma Co., Iowa birth and death data from various census records and his daughter Margaret Ultsch Freeman's census records and death record. Charles Wagner I know of no variants at this time, though Carl is probably the spelling of his name as a baby. b. abt 1855 Poland or Russia d. said to be 3 Aug 1894, but there is no record of it. birth-his marriage record and the birth record of his only child. both claim he was b. in Poland. later medical records claim he was b. in Russia. death-Massachusetts form for a death record that was neither filled out or filed. it's still in my cousin's possession John Hause/House b. abt 1793, Pennsylvania d. probably 1851-1871, probably Ontario, Canada he is in the 1851 census with his wife, sons, a daughter in law and two grand daughters. birth and death 1851, 1871 Waterloo, Ontario, Canada census John George Schaeffer b. abt 1814 Germany d. aft 1871, probably before 1881, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada birth 1851, 1871 census we don't know the maiden names of the wives of John House and George Schaeffer as yet, but they are German as well. I think that's everybody...except the Ledwitchs/Ludwigs who stopped over in Ireland for 100 years or more before coming to America. so, only one of them (Christen Ultsch) was in the 1880 census. the rest of of them died well before that. some of their children made it into the 1880, but not all of them. I did contact the Speyer archives and the Massachusetts archives. still working with the MA archives. oh, and the archivist of the Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Lutheran church, he's supposed to reply to me some time this month. let's see...Lloyd's of London to find out if Charles had seaman's records, the British censi for Anton, Thecla and Charles Wagner to no avail, Castle Garden's which only discloses the Ultsch's so far. various states and nations at USGenweb and WorldGenweb. MA vital records office to no avail. that's all I can think of at this late hour, but I'm quite certain there's more...oh, the Misty Cove historical museum gave me the data on the ships I know Charles worked on. the national archives in Washington, DC gave me Charles' pay records and medical records. and I contacted one of the islands in Eastern Canada that holds shipping records...so long ago that I can't recall the island (Prince Edward, perhaps?) or the name of the society. and I was a member of the German historical association in England for a year but did not continue my membership...oh, and very, very early on in my research I posted a query about Charles in a German query quarterly, the name eludes me but I think it started with an F and was a fairly short word. that was when Rootsweb was still on the BBS system...or perhaps before BBS's. so I've made a number of foray's into various forms of research over the years. have had to do it as cheaply as possible, though the query in the German paper cost me nearly $50.00. I was feeling a bit desperate at the time. maybe some day it will come back. I can't and don't splurge very often. I've been on the web since 1991 steady, looking at alot of (but not all) websites. couldn't list all of the one's I've been to. went to several new (to me) sites today. most of my research now is online as I have settled in a small town with little available beyond a few fhc's and the net. haven't been ordering 'films. the new fees and higher gas prices has cut out my skipping over to the fhc, which is short of volunteers. so that's about it. hope it's helpful Cornelia
