I think it mos likely that you will find the Brunners entered through New York. go to http://www.stevemorse.org/ and scroll down to Castle Garden and search for the Brunners, father, mother an children. I think he `1850s PALs will show country of origin. It is possible that they entered though Canada. either Quebec or Montreal. Look in later Census to see is the children and perhaps the parents were naturalized. If so get the naturalization record which may show country of origin. >What do the later Census say about the birthplace of Samuel and >Christina, the daughter? Where had the Brunners gone by 1880?. I do no find Samuel, Peter or Alfred in Cayuhoga County in 1880. In you original message you said Christina was bon about 1869.. So she was the second Christina, the one born c1849 must have died before 1870. bob gillis

    3. Debby, Photography was not in common use until the later 1800s. Prior to that it would have been an expensive painting. It is highly unlikely you will find any images of those families until you find others researching the same families: Your best chance to find images is to find cousins, which should come first. It is common for many listers to help others find information about their families. However, there are several issues of your presentation that has turned me (and perhaps others on the list) away from even helping you. Primarily, the overwhelming amount of information that lack dates (even estimated) and places. Also, the lack of information about where you found these data (so we do not retrace your research). In addition, when posting genealogy related queries, it is standard practice to use all caps for all surnames (to make them stand out for list skimmers, and potential cousins, to easily see). (There is also a genealogy standard practice for subject lines, to which I have changed yours.) To find cousins or other researching your family, please concentrate on one family and supply all the details you know about them: full names, dates, places, religion, and where you found information about them. Note: when posting a query to a regional mail list or message board, the query should relate exclusively to that region. 1. [Pfalz] "Universitaet" in church records
    2. Laun Charlie
    3. I have been looking at church records from the Evangelischer Kirche of Goennheim in the Pfaltz (near Bad Duerkheim) from mid 18th century. I have come across several records containing the word "Universitaet". In one marriage record it apears after the name of both the Groom and his Father. In other records from the same period there is often an indication that the person was of Reformed or Mennonite confession (as oposed to Evangelischer) The definition of Universitaet that I have found is University but that doesn't make a lot of sense. I am not aware of any University in this area. You don't see many university educated farmers and smiths. If the person was connected with a university I would expect to see "Herr" and it does not appear. Has anyone seen records where Universitaet is used to signify a person belonging to a sect that believes in a doctrine of Universal Salvation or Universal Grace? This area was very diverse religiously with significant minority communities both Reformed and Mennonite. I would not be suprised to find other Pietist and Anabaptist sects present as well. Any other ideas of what this might indicate? Charles Laun

    2. Bob Thanks for replying to my inquiry regarding the Roemer family that I am researching. My Casper Roemer, with father Peter, was born in 1838 in Honnigen. His father was Peter, born 1792 in Honnigen and his mother, Agnes Kreucher, born in 1796 in Honnigen. Casper had brothers, Anton, born 1828 and Thomas born 1834. I have been unable to find anything on this family in the Honnigan catholic church records but did find the same names and approximate dates for family members named Krupps. Do you have any information on any of this that could be of help to me? Thanks Evelyn Michigan
