    3. Hello group!! Thanks Bob for the information... I got on the FHL site and got some film numbers... I have Michael (ie George Michael) in the US censuses from 1860 through 1880... Not sure of his death but his wife remarried in 1891 and he is not in the 1900 census. I am getting his will/probate today so hopefully that will give me some answers. I am still trying to find him on the passenger lists to see when he came to the US... I know that he was in Illinois in 1853 as my Great Aunt had a pioneer certificate stating that she was a direct descendent of Michael Hazelwonder who lived in Illinois in 1853... The first land deed that I have found for Calhoun County was 1854... I didn't have a lot of time to look to see if there was an earlier one... I am planning on going to the FHL center on Tuesday evening... They are open in the evenings on Tues and Thurs... Thanks for all the help! Juls

If what you have looked at are on fiche, then you have looked at the old IGI records. all of these fiche records have been entered into the LDS computer and are available on line. Back to Terry. You can look at the films of the original church records. Do a Place search in the FHL Catalogue find the films for the location where your Hasselwanders were from. The on line IGI has Eusserthal and Annwiler. After getting the film numbers go to your local FHC and order the films. Before ordering any films, search rootsweb.com and Google for Hasselwander. The only extracted IGI records are for Michael Hasselwanders marriage in 1781. There are no records for a Michael born 1812 nor is he in the 1880 Census. 3. Hi Robert, they were Catholics, as in the title I gave for the Familienbuch. I have checked non Catholic Familienbuch's in the area but have not found any links. The family I am most interested in is Bresch/Presch. I have traced them back to the early 1700's but that is where it has stopped. I did run across a Presch in Colmar in the 1600's and that is my next place to research, awaiting films from FHL. Another name I am researching is Schnerch (also Catholic) but I have not found anything on them, not even emigration records, although there were many Schnerchs in Galicia. I am now awaiting another film from the FHL, Ansiedlerakten, 1686-1855 which gives information on the emigration from Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Bohmen, and Moravia. I will now read about the Edit of Nantes, it may give some clues. Thankx Andy -----Original Message----- From: pfalz-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:pfalz-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Robert E. As I have said before, my own ancestors -being Calvinists- moved west into Hesse about the time of the revocation of the Edit of Nantes in 1685 seeking freedom to practice their religion. They then followed the Dukes of Nassau-Weilberg back into the Pfalz (Kirchheimbolanden) in the early 18th century (1730s). I have no family experience with Galacia so cannot comment on that. 3. Thank you for the information. I am looing for the history of the region in Germany where my ancestors came from - and the reasons why they emigrated, which would probably be included in the history. I have a hunch that they originally came from Alsace in the late 1600's and then moved north to the Sien / Kirchenbollenbach / Offenbach am Glan area, but why? I am aware of the organization you mention but they are more into the German settlements in Galicia / Russia and their migrations throughout the world during/after WWII, whereas I am more interested in the German origins. I have already researched the Galicia area in great detail. I have both, Wilhelm Kalbrunner, which list the dates that the various settlers left Vienna for Galicia and Russia; and also Ludwig Schneider, which lists the settlers in the various settlements in Galicia in 1788 and 1820. Within these documents, it is sometimes listed where the family came from and through that, I have been able to located and find birth records for some of the members of the families. I also have the FHL films for these areas, a listing of Pfalz marriages, and the Familienbuch by Rudi Jung for "der Katholischen Pfarreien: Kirchenbollenbach, Fischbach-Weierbach, Mittelreidenbach, Sien, and Offenbach (Glan)". Within the familienbuch, comments are inserted when the families emigr! ated to Galicia, eg. "Familie wanderte am 3.7.1784, e Personen, nach Galizien aus." I still have missing information regarding their documents but understand that there is usually someone in each village / town that is a local historian / genealogist and that there may be more records and familienbuch's that are not published or are not in the archives. I would imagine that the best way to find out more would be to travel to these villages? Some of the questions I have are: Did some members of the family stay behind in Germany? Most likely. Why did they leave? Were they serfs and given land in Galicia? Did some "escape" and illegally leave? Etc. I will check with the history departments at our local universities to see if they have anything of value. 1. [Pfalz] Thank you Mr. Gillis
    2. Julie Goheen
    3. Thanks for the help on Hasselwonder... It connects me to two families... Not only do I believe that Michael's son, George Michael, is my 3rd great grandfather, but Michael's wife is an aunt to Appolonia Lambertus who is my 4th great grandmother and also my 3rd great grandmother... Confusing??? Appolonia married Wilhelm Reinshagen (later Rhynesocker)... They had 8 children, oldest being Caroline... When Wilhelm died in 1868 (I believe that was the year) Appolonia married Michael Hazelwonder (b. 1812) in Calhoun County, IL... Appolonia had died before the July 8th, 1870 census... Michael then married Caroline, daughter of Wilhelm and Appolonia... So that is how Appolonia is my 3rd and 4th great grandmother... Anyway I just wanted to say thank you... Looks like Anweiler is the place to write to... Just need to get some addresses!! Thanks again!! Juls :)

Search the name of rootsweb and there is a WorldConnect file for him. Another Michael Hasselwander (perhaps his father) was married in Annweiler in 1807 per FS. bob gillis > >Has anyone seen this name during their research? > >Thanks for any help, tips, suggestions, etc! > >Juls > >********* >Information for list members: http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/DEU/PFALZ.html >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PFALZ-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > > >
