I am looking doe information on FERTIG born in Germany around 1672. Thank you Allen C. Fertig f0895@wmconnect.com
Katherine, >From the Berliner Journal 21 May 1874: GERMANN Carl 15 May 1874 at the home of his son in Waterloo Village, Carl Germann of New Hamburg died at 72 years of age http://www.waterlooogs.ca/Newspapers/BerlinerJournal1873-77Deaths.PDF >From the Berliner Journal 22 Dec 1881: GERMANN Susannah 20 Dec 1881 Susannah Germann, widow of Carl Germann of New Hamburg, died in Waterloo at age of 72 years, 10 months and 8 days http://www.waterlooogs.ca/Newspapers/BerlinerJournal1881Deaths.PDF (note: Present day Kitchener, Ontario was originally named Berlin - the name was changed during WW1) You are correct in assuming New Hamburg (and a large area surrounding) had a considerable number of German settlers. Have you done any research on your Carl Germann and Susannah Koch in Waterloo County, Ontario? The Kitchener Public Library has an extensive collection of local history, perhaps there is a more detailed obituary or biography on Carl Germann. Feel free to contact me off-list if you haven't already gone this route, I'd be happy to have a look for you. Hello listers, I am searching for the ancestors of Carl GERMANN b Meisenheim 21st Jan 1802 and Susannah KOCH b Meisenheim ,15 Feb 1810 . They would have married about 1836/7 in Meisenheim,Germany. They emigrated to Ontario Canada in 1850 and settled in New Hamburg. They would have been Protestants. Are there any church records that some kind soul could access for me? Katherine O'Regan New Zealand.

The closest per encarta is Hamburg New York near Buffalo NY. It is south of Ontario. There is a Carl Germann in a Worldconnect file on rootsweb.com that matches the info you have given. Find the file and contact the submitter. I think it has amny eroors and inconsistancies in it. The info in the file is as vague as you have. One of Frederick Charles sisters married a Scott also and went to NZ. Ask on the Erie County NY list or message board for a lookup in the 1860 and earlier Ccensus for Carl German living perhpas in Hamburg. the WC file has Chrstian, another son having a daughter in Plattsville. This is not found in Eencarta either but there is a Platteville in Wisconsin. Maybe that is where New Hamburg was. Ask on the Wisconsin Message Board about New hamburg and a look up for Carl Germann. bob gillis > >Carl Germanns son Charles Frederick married a Katherine Scott whose father, >William Scott was one of the founding fathers - but with a name like New >Hamburg one presumes that there was considerable German emigration to that >area. This was all we know of him - > >"He was tall and distinguished looking with a striking military bearing, no >doubt acquired by a period of military service in the Army. Can I use English on this site? Katherine O'Regan New Zealand
Hi I live in Norway abd was trying to rent the films for Callbach, Pfalz last year. But they didn't allow the films to be rented to Norway. So I guess that may be the same for New Zealand. It's not easy for us who have a long distance to go to try to find our German ancestors. Maybe I will have the time when I become a retirement penisoner about 20 years from now :)). Regarding the German church records - I ordered several spools from the LDS library, and then found I couldn't read them. The script and handwriting legibility of the early records was baffling. Also, for some reason the LDS people were unable to send me the correct film. It took several tries before I got one out of three spools I was looking for, and after I saw how difficult the one was to read, I canceled the other orders. Tom

Hallo Paul kannst Du Deine Anfrage nochmal auf Deutsch schreiben zum besseren Verständniss gruss uli
During the Thirty Years War the area currently comprising the Southwestern Pfalz was seriously depopulated. Many villages were abandoned. In 1685 the Swedish ruler of Zweibrücken permitted the Catholic faith in that Reformed dukedom. Even prior to 1685 Catholics began moving to the area. After 1685, with permission to practice a religion other than Reformed, many more people emigrated. I have no original source evidence, but a reasonable volume of informed material indicating that the Bishop of Metz actively sought to send priests and practicing Catholics to the area. The recruiting effort extended to other areas too. What is currently Luxembourg and southern Belgium also sent a share of immigrants to the Pfalz. So too did other areas in what is today Germany. My questions are: Can anyone give me insight into the activities of the Bishops of Metz during this time? Can anyone help with the boundaries of Metz and the surrounding bishoprics? Are there archives that might contain the names of the emigrant families? (I have incomplete lists on the receiving end.) Paul Sefrin

Unfortunately, that batch number has only one entry with the HEBEL surname, your Johann Georg Friedrich, however, there may be additional information in the actual church book entry on LDS microfilm 0193096. In that time period the actual marriage entry in the church book usually gives the full names of both parents (including "born as" name for mother) and their home village. Rockenhausen) (Main Author) Parish register of baptisms, marriages, conversions, confirmations, deaths, presbyters, indexes, penitents, reinterments, schoolteachers, indexes, communicants, and censors of the Lutheran and Reformed Protestant churches. ============================ A search for the next batch number in sequence (C989972) gives 5 more HEBELs, 4 are the children of Johann Adam HEBEL and Catharina Elisabetha HILDEBRAND and one is the child of Johannes HEBEL and Johannetta ENDER. A search of the associated marriage batch number (M989972) gives the marriage entries for these 2 HEBEL families. In that time period the actual marriage entry in the church book usually gives the full names of both parents (including "born as" name for mother) and their home village. It is easy to speculate that Johann Adam and Johannes were other children of Johann Nicholas HEBEL and Maria Elisabetha when they moved to Obermoschel.
