I am looking for info on the Staud family of Essweiler. I know a group came to the US. I am connected to Johann Heinrich and Anna Margaretha, who had a daughter Maria Catharina, brn in 1726, who married Johann Wilhelm Ruth in 1745. There are other Staud families, but I cannot connect them. Can anyone help me???
My 2 sisters, a cousin, and I, are traveling to Gimbsheim, 12 July, for 2 weeks to visit the area of our Kimmel ancestors. We have tried, in vain, to contact the town historian and other Gimbsheim residents. Anyone out there ever been to Gimbsheim ? We would appreciate any information or advice from all who have traveled in Germany. We are flying into Frankfurt and renting a car to drive to Gimbsheim. We are hoping to visit other areas of Germany as well--as long as we have money for gasoline! My cousin speaks fluent German which will be a big plus!! Thanks, Helen Kimmel Orndorff
Brian- As several folks will tell you, you should eventually get on the Rootsweb-Hesse site. However, the answer is the same. You likely already know that you ancestor, as Johann Phillip Wissmann is listed on the LDS Family search with a birth date of 25 Aug. However, that is likely the christening date so your's is probably correct. Unfortunately, the listing is a contribution from a family member so one cannot know how real it is or on what facts it is based. You will need to go into the browse categories, locations and eventually places on the Familysearch website to get the number of the LDS microfilm of the appropriate church in Darmstadt. Once you get that by ordering it at your local family history center you spend a few weeks pouring over the tape. Its very frustrating but, ultimately very rewarding. Good luck. I am looking for information to continue my search on my 7th great grandfather Johann Phillip Wisman. I have also seen the name spelled Wissman, Wismann, Weisman. He was born Aug. 15, 1715 in Darmstadt, Stakenburg, Hessen. He left Rotterdam Holland on Sept. 26, 1737 bound for Philadelphia PA aboard the ship "St. Andrew Galley". Does anyone know where I might find additional information concerning his German relatives, parents, etc. Websites, books, lists, individuals, etc? This is my first try at researching someone outside the U.S. I am concerned with information before his trip to America. I would appreciate any leads that might point me in the right direction. Thanks, Brian Smith
Unfortunately it doesn't appear that they specified the town. "Kingright" is most probably Koenigreich, which just means kingdom, iow his place of birth was the Kingdom of Bavaria. -----Original Message----- From: The Engelbachs [mailto:jme240@inav.net] Sent: Thursday, July 06, 2000 8:07 AM To: PFALZ-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [PFALZ] "Kingright" I have a death certificate for Andrew John Gaab (1830-1902) that lists his place of birth as "Kingright Byrun". I am researching Eberle also. My great grandfather Matthew and my great grandmother Mary Josepha Thoma came from Germany (some say Bavaria area) via Switzerland to the US in 1868. A brother Frank and his wife came over with them. Just recently found the names of my great great grandfather and gggrandmother was Karrl Eberle and Katerina (don't know maiden name). This is as far back as I have been able to go. Matthew was born 1836 and died 1894. Mary Josepha Thoma born 1844 and died 1900. Would like to make a connection with someone if possible. I know this is a long-shot, but it is a coincidence anyway. I'm researching Eberlin (could be Eberle, I suppose) in Burrweiler also. Anna Marie married Michael Poth @ 1770, daughter Barbara b. 1773 married Johann Peter Minges @ 1800. Burrweiler is such a small village, there may be a connection. Thanks for any input. I wanted to alert readers on this list to the documentation I did of my May 2000 trip to Germany. I've written an article about it (rather lengthy I'm afraid) that I've posted as a series of pages, with photos and other images, to http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jillaine/pfalz I still have a few pieces to fill in, but I'd like to share my work with you all. I would very much like to hear your reactions, and if something's not clear, I'd sure appreciate hearing about it. It's intended to be both a user's guide to others doing research in the area, as well as a fun (I hope) story. I really did have fun with all of it. Many thanks. -- Jillaine Smith http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jillaine SCHMIDT; Baden, Germany; 1800-1850* BETZ; Feilbingert, Rheinpfalz, Germany; 1600-1850* BOHNENBERGER; Unterreichenbach, Germany; 1600-1900 DRESSEL; Feilbingert, Rheinpfalz, Germany; 1600-1850 ERHARDT; Unterreichenbach, Calw Wuerttemberg, Germany; 1700-1850* FASSNACHT; Altensteig, Wuerttemberg, Germany; 1600-1850* GENGENBACH; Unterreichenbach, Germany; 1600-1900 GLUNZ; Swaebisch Hall, Germany; 1750-1850* JAUCH; Baden, Germany; 1750-1850* LAEPPLE; Altensteig, Wurttemberg, Germany: 1700-1800 SEEGER: Rohrdorf, Donaukreis, Wurttemberg: 1600-1850 WAGNER; Feilbingert, Rheinpfalz, Germany; 1700-1850 * Also: Buffalo, New York, USA; 1847-present __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Mary Lou, I first used Yahoo using a Boolean search (e.g."Emsburen" and "genealogy") and only found little (the first web page with only one name). I then tried Dogpile.com and tried it again, although I added the umlaut to the "u" and that seemed have done the trick (I learned how to use the umlaut - two dots over the vowel - from folks here on this list. From there it gave me the page that had all the info on it. I doublechecked that info against what we already had, and Bingo! - I had my info. joe ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mary Lou Carr" <lacarr@bellatlantic.net> To: <PFALZ-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, July 02, 2000 7:44 AM Subject: [PFALZ] Joe Metz's "what part of Germany" > Hi! > Just read of your good fortune in finding location in Germany and of > finding family's information on a site after searching the web. > Can you give me/us any hints on this? I wanted to follow up on my earlier request asking where Embühren was. I did locate it; but better yet, after doing some web searches, I found a website which listed records for this village and my great-grandmother was in the list and now I have her genealogy back, in some cases, to the 1600's! Thanks again for everyone's help. joe ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nina Harkey" <harkey@lni.net> To: "Joe Metz" <joemetz@fuse.net> Sent: Sunday, June 25, 2000 2:47 PM Subject: Re: [PFALZ] What part of Germany > Hi Joe, > Embühren, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany > I don't think the url works if I send it to you pasting it from my browser > so I have tried to email you the map through expediamaps.com. Does anyone know if there is a church (probably Evangelical or Lutheran) in Lettweiler, Pfalz.? Found it on Expedia.com but there is no zip code shown. According to Charles Hall "Atlantic Bridge to Germany" there are church records there from 1640. All I have been able to find are a few births in the 1670s and these are in the Rehhorn church books. The name I am researching in Lettweiler is GRIMM, Wilhelm. His son Veltin is my ancestor. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance for your time. Joe Wolfe
Hello everyone Excuse me doing this, but I am trying to find a Janet Dill who was reseaching the GAUCH family two years ago. I helped her with some of the research and now I have heard from a man who has made the connection to her tree, but can´t locate her anymore. Her old email address no longer works. I wonder if this is getting to be a common problem among these lists. :-) Thanks. Carol Saint-Clair (Researching WINSTEL in the Pfalz) An American in Niedersachsen RootsWeb Sponsor

June 29, 2000 Dear Listmembers; Hello from Tokyo. I am researching the sirname KAHL. My KAHL line lived in the Saarland area for about 170 years from the 1680s to the 1850s before emigrating to New York City. I have been trying to push back beyond the 1680s but have run into a brick wall. My earliest KAHL ancestor, Johann (or Hans) Peter Kahl, first appeared in Malstatt (now part of Saarbruecken) in the Saarland in 1684 when he married a local girl. He died in Malstatt in 1721. He is said to have been born in 1658 but we do not know where. The Pfalz surrounds Saarland so I thought I might ask whether you have ever seen any record of him. If not, can you introduce me to a researcher in the the area who could do some digging for me? I hope this is not too much of an inconvenience. Thank you and good luck in your search, Daniel Kahl (Tokyo)
