On AOL we have several screen names and I noticed that the screen name I used to visit Chat rooms received lots of spam. I later found out they have robots that harvest email addys from chat rooms, Since I stopped visiting chat rooms and deleted the screen names I get no spam at all. Except from web sites I visited, but that is only one or two a month. Bob

If you have had any contact with Ancestry.com, that could be the source of your problem. I was deluged with spam within two or three weeks after signing on there. I am still trying to dry up that deluge. I am not positive that they are the culprits, but do not know who else is likely, and several of my cousins had similar experiences and are convinced that they are the source of the problem.
I don't think any of the junk mail I get is from any of the genealogy lists on rootsweb that I belong to. Since I signed onto a Yahoo list and signed off I think I have gotten a bit more junk mail. Allowing cookies on web sites you got to may be a more likely source of the spam. bob gillis Rose Johns wrote: > > Has anyone else started receiving junk email since subscribing to this > list? Yes, I have and quite a lot of them. I have never received any before either and it is driving me crazy. I don't respond to any of them at all, just delete them and hope that will soon take care of it------ ----- Original Message ----- From: Rose Johns <torosebud@earthlink.net> To: <PFALZ-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 17, 2000 6:13 AM Subject: [PFALZ] Junk Mail > Has anyone else started receiving junk email since subscribing to this > list? Has anyone else started receiving junk email since subscribing to this list? In 3 years of surfing the net (and being careful where I go and leave my address) I never received any spam of any kind.......until I subscribed to this list. Now I receive at least two a day...always from a country other than the US. I'm not "blaming" this list......just wonder if somehow these places are obtaining our addresses from it. Is this happening to anyone else?
I don't get anything like that and I've been subscribed for awhile to this and others.
Just testing my server to see if I can post. Vernia
write it as it was at that time - Manheim, <name of bezirkamt>, Bavaria. Germany didn't get used until 1871. Don't use Germany when it didn't exist except for cultural purposes. For family history/genealogy purposes - use the name of sovereign country as it was then. LFHalter@aol.com wrote: > > Looking for info on ancestors in Manheim area. Today I was looking at the film for Hinzweiler parish for early 1800s. At the side of some birth records are crosses, which obviously indicate deaths. BUT on some, not all of the crosses, there are dots - some have one on the bottom left-hand side of the cross, and some have two - one on the right-hand side and one on the left-hand side of the cross. I assume these dots mean something - but WHAT??? I hope someone has an answer.
Where can I get information on Berndorf, Germany and a Wilhelm Best born there in the late 1600s? Is there an archive where I can write? Can anyone give me the correct district or area where Berndorf is located? Is it part of the Pfalz area? Thanks for any input. Janette
Is there a website that displays an explanation of the old German letters/script to aid in the translation of documents? I have copies of birth certificates and a marriage document from LDS microfilm that I wish to try to translate. Thank you, Sharon
First thing you should do is go to the Family History Library catalog at www.familysearch.org > browse and do a locality search or browse for Lettweiler. Probably the church records have been filmed and can be accessed through a Family History Center. The above is good for Kathy Davis for Annweiler. The church records may not be at the church but at a central archive and if you freind dies not speak German, he amy get nowhere. Also look at the IGI for your family name as most of the names form the German records are there. bob gillis Joseph E. Wolfe wrote: > > I am in desperate need of some help if possible. I am researching the EHRHARDT family of Annweiler and have been directed to the Diocese of Speyer for church records. Does anyone know how I can get the address? Many thanks, Kathy Davis.
I am in desperate need of some help if possible. A friend of mine is going to be going to the Pfalz next month and will be close to Lettweiler, Kreis Rockenhausen. In Charles Hall "Atlantic Bridge to Germany" there is a reference that there are church books for Lettweiler from 1640. Unable to find out anything about this and he is willing to try to go to the church and see if he can talk with someone about this. But he does not want to be sent all over town as his time is limited. Is there anyone who knows anything about Lettweiler on this list? Basically need an address to write and find out the proper and best and easiest way to get in touch with the pastor....... All help will be greatly appreciated. Many thanx... Joe Wolfe
