    3. After 80+ years of knowing that John Stickney had changed his name _to_ Stickney from some similar German name, we finally found his father and the family in the Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, census of 1860. Sibert STICKEN and his wife Anna Maria MüLLER emigrated with their 4 small children from their home in Lindweiler to the US in 1847, arriving in New York in August. (Still haven't found the ship.) Thanks to the LDS website, I was able to locate Sibert and Anna Maria's marriage record in the Tondorf civil registers. Viewing the films gave us both sets of their parents and names of Sibert's uncle and grandparents. Sibert, born 1814, was the son of Herman (Germaine) Joseph STICKEN (born about 1785), son of Johann Joseph Sticken and Anna Gertrude DEDERICHS. They also had at least 1 other child that lived to adulthood - Sibert. Anna Maria MüLLER, born abt.1820, was the daughter of Johann Jacob MüLLER and Elisabeth GERHARDS. They were married 27 April 1842 in Tondorf, and had the following children born to them in Germany: Anna Helena, Anna Barbara, Jacob, and Johann Jacob. One more daughter, Catherine, was born to them in Wisconsin. We are happily looking for any and all connections to the STICKEN - MüLLER - DEDERICHS - and GERHARDS families in this area, and those connected to them. It looks like this is considered the Eifel area. Is this the correct list to post to. Keeping my fingers crossed!!!XXX Judy Stickney from Northern Minnesota

    1. [PFALZ] HEBERLING
    2. Hi, I have recently started to research the surname HEBERLING. The Heberlings came from Impflingen-Insheim, Pfalz, Bayern. The first arrival in America that we know of is Johannes, his wife Anna Apollonia and their son Hans Peter Heberling. They came aboard the ship "Adventure" from Rotterdam on September 23,1732. Their other children followed in 1749 and 1750. We have a strong feeling that there were already family members in America before Johannes. Johannes was very quickly able to buy a substantial farm. We have one record mentioning a Jacob Heberling in 1709 in America. Any help, advice, direction or opinions would be gratefully accepted. Several are listed as from Wunsiedel. However, Wunsiedel is in Oberfranken which is a part of Bavaria proper. Rheinland-Pfalz (the area covered by this maillist) was also considered a part of Bavaria, but it was not connected to Bavaria proper. You would be better served by asking your questions on the Bavaria maillist. -- mailto:fhheld@freewwweb.com _______________________________________________ Why pay for something you could get for free? 3. Thank you to everyone who responded to my junk mail query....I truly appreciate all the input. It's impossible to answer each of you directly so I'll quickly post it here and then we can all get back to genealogy <grin>. The answers were probably 90% NO to receiving junk mail. About 10% of you said YES. I must conclude that my address got to the "get-rich-quick scheme" spammers in another way somehow......not thru my use of the list. I knew Rootsweb would not do that...I thought perhaps someone else was monitering the list for purposes other than genealogy. Thanks for all your tips and suggestions... Rose

    3. Rose: I am and have been on several of the rootsweb lists, and have never received any spam. I am also careful as you are, so perhaps it is earthlink? Have been on Pfalz list for well over a year, and have no problems. Also I recently changed from ATT to AOL (using yahoo) and still have no problems. This doesn't really help you, but it at least presents negatives to eliminate. 2. Dorothy Pheil
    3. Go to your temporary internet files and clear out everything in it. This also has the cookies. I had a problem with some one getting into my genealogy files and taking what they wanted (I have an idea who, if it shows up where I think it does-------). When your surfing you get cookies and attachments from the sites you visit, so your computer can run program. They are suppose to be deleted when you leave the site, but they don't. Leaving your programs open to what and who ever. This is also the reason computer crash so much. The first time I cleaned my it had over 8,000 different surfing attachment and/or cookies.
