I also connected with the site. Was very impressive with all the stuff to look at, but at the same time very confusing for me to see what you could do with all the information. All I could make out was that it was a very large index of the resources that you had to go someplace and Purchase something from someone. I guess you could narrow down the information you were looking for to one of the resources for sale, and then that may get you some specific information if you purchased the material. I think more and more we are going to have to start paying for the information we get on line. That is ok, everybody needs to make a profit if they are in business, or just there to help us, they still need to cover their expenses. I could not see any thing at all that would help the average person looking for some basic information. Of course I could be speaking from an uninformed, and inexperienced viewpoint, as I only spent two hours there trying to find anything that I could use (with not much money to spend). Joseph

Good Morning, Is anyone researching the name BILDHEIMER? The information I have is: Apollonia Bildheimer, born abt Mar 1797, Grevenhausen, Rhineland Pfalz was a d/o Johannes Bildheimer [lived and died Grevenhausen] and Anna Maria Sabbathne [born Grevenhausen; died Lambrecht.] Apollonia BILDHEIMER m. Heinrich WEBER [c1800 Lambrecht; d. bef 1852 Lambrecht. Their son Friedrich W. Weber is my husband's great-grandfather. The facts presented above are based solely on the following information: 1. Letter dated 22 February, 1995, from Rosemarie Regenauer, Evangelische Kirche Der Pfalz (Protestantische Landeskirche), Landeskirchenrat, wherein she stated ".........In confirmation register of 4 April 1852 (Palm Sunday) record of the pastor, that the father of Friedrich W. Weber, Heinrich Weber, is deceased. The mother is of the Catholic religion (Apollonia Bildheimer). Perhaps this one hint might help you. With friendly best regards, s/Rosemarie Regenauer." I have done numerous searches and have been unable to locate anyone with the surname BILDHEIMER living in Germany today. Also, searches conducted on various U.S. search engines [Rootsweb, etc.] have found no individual with the surname BILDHEIMER. A research trip to Lambrecht, and surrounding areas of Germany, also resulted in blank pages on the BILDHEIMER line. This is the Lambrecht located near Kaiserslautern. Any assistance or suggestions will be most appreciated. LaDoris Doughty Weber eva@cvtv.net
Can anyone tell me what the German spelling of Shofner would be? This is probably a phonetic spelling. Thank you rjgpneveaux@worldnet.att.net
The Institute is headed by Dr. Paul, who speaks and writes fluent English, and is often a lecturer in the States. It should be no problem to write there in English. As Margaret said, not everyone is listed in their files, but they are still quite extensive. And anyone who has information about the emigration of their ancestors should send that data in, as they are eager to become as complete as possible. :-) I believe they are state-supported. Donations are not necessary, but something to cover postage to America ($5) would be nice. Carol

Florence & LaDoris, Thank you so very much for finding the info on the internet; I found it right away by following the menu, Emigration, German and American Sources, and the Palatinate. That is quite an interesting German genealogy site. If I find anyone who has had experience with the Institut fur Pfalzische Geschichte, will let the list know. Margery

Hi All: There were three brothers (Christian, Adam, and John Loeffel) who came to the U.S during the Palatine immigration. I am trying to locate the name of the village or town where they came from. They came at different times during the 1700's. I don't know their mother's name, but their father's name was John. Would appreciate any help. Thanks, Phyllis

Hello - I will be in Wiesbaden for one day (next Tuesday). I am on a tour, but that day (after we land in Frankfurt and get to Wiesbaden) is free. I was hoping to be able to get to my ancestral village of Kirberg, which I see from MapQuest is 18.5 miles from Wiesbaden. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get from Wiesbaden to Kirberg...is there some form of mass transit that is reliable, such as a train or bus? Is it possible to rent a car in Wiesbaden for the day? How would the traffic and roads be between the two spots? I would dearly love to be able to get there..and I will be so close, this seems like a great opportunity. Unfortunately I don't know anyone in Germany to help with this, so I am posting this to the list. As I leave from the US on Monday, and if you have a suggestion for me, could you please let me know quickly? Thank you VERY much! Diane
List, Does anyone know if this work has been completed for immigration lists 53, ship Glasgow; 79, ship Robert & Alice; 115, ship Two Brothers; and 119, ship Mary Galley? Is this work still being done? If so, where can it be found? Yesterday I was at the local FHC and found a 1969 paper written by Dr. Fritz Braun, "World Conference on Records and Genealogical Seminar," in which he had plans for locating . . . places of origin of the immigrants. . ." He states, "For the Palatinate area, we have established the 'Heimatstelle Pfalz' in Kaiserslautern, which is under my direction. We have an extensive card file containing date on emigrants. This card file is subdivided according to surnames, places of origin and destination and is constantly being supplemented with new information concerning the country of origin as well as destination. . . ". . .I can show you some examples and for this purpose have selected the passenger lists No. 1, 11, 58 and 189. . . "List 1) The majority of the emigrants of the ship 'William and Sarah' came from Kraischgau and the vicinity of Heidelberg. Among this group many persons are of Swiss origin. This coincides with the fact that many immigrants from Switzerland had settled in Kraischgau. "List 11) The emigrants on the ship 'Thistle of Glasgow' came mainly from the Rhine valley, that is from the 'Vorderpfalz' (fore-Palatinate) with a larger group from the Hassloch-Ludwigshafen area. "List 58) The majority of the passengers of the ship 'Glasgow' originated from the Kusel-Baumholder region, in the so-called 'Westrich,' that is the western part of the North-Palatine hill country. "List 189) The places of origin are known of 22 of the 74 emigrants on the ship 'Snow Ketty.' Seventeen of these came from Edenkoben. The other places which have been found so far are all near Edenkoben. ". . .The sooner we can complete the ships registers in this way here in the country of origin, the sooner we will be able to reconstruct the places of origin for a larger number of emigrants. . ." Anyone knowing of additional information on this project please reply to the entire list since it is surely of interest to many. Thank you sincerely, Margery Borger Sacramento, CA

Subject: New extracted LDS Database announced SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH - 12.5 million vital records from Western Europe are now available on CD-ROM from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Vital Records Index for Western Europe includes information extracted from birth, christening and marriage records from the Alpine, Benelux, French, German, Italian, and Spanish regions. Jean Pierre Massela, the Church's family history coordinator for France, says the new CD's are an extraordinary tool for people with Western European lineage. "These records are an index of people who have lived one to four centuries ago. It will be a great help for historians and genealogists who will be able to more easily find the original records. The information is taken from microfilms produced by the Family History Department in full agreement with European laws. Ray Madsen, product manager for the Family and Church History Department, says this is the first time such a large database of records for Western Europe has been made available for home research. "It also has a very powerful search engine that allows you to search not just for individuals but for parents or particular locations." Novice genealogist Paul Nauta was able to locate 80 new ancestors in just a few hours at home. "My grandfather on my father's side came from a small town in Italy on the Adriatic Sea. Much of this little Italian ommunity's civil registration from 1809 to 1860 was captured on this new database. It has provided a gold mine of information for me on my grandfather's ancestral lines." The set of 21 discs can be purchased for $27.00 at Church distribution centers worldwide or by calling toll free **1-800-537-5971** and asking for item #50145. It can also be ordered on the Internet at www.familysearch.org The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has worked with churches and governments in more than 100 nations to gather and preserve the world's heritage through the records of its diverse peoples.
